The local high school wants a break-through banner for the football team.
It is 10 oz. banner material about 12'(w) x 10'(h) that is cut from the corners and bottom all meeting in the middle. This has velcro tabs where the seams come together so it can be fastened together. Pole pockets around the sides and top accept rigid PVC pipe for a frame where the cheerleaders can hold it up so the players can run through it, then it is put back together for the next game. They are wanting to get a price so they can raise money for it over the summer. Anyone know of a supplier or can anyone here help me with this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Eddie...One of the schools brought in a catalog advertising a product like that. The catalog was a direct marketing program to the school and the price was low compared to what I was willing to do. There were standard cliparts plus a place for the school name.

So the answer is, you probably won't find anything you can just buy and markup.

There is nothing to the design, however. Just three pieces of garden pipe pvc and two 90's to hold it at the top.The banner is cut in an X and held closed by a few velcro fasteners. The banner can attach to the poles by either pole pockets or velcro.

The problem is price. Most schools have very low budgets and just won't spring for the cost of a banner like this.

Just give them a price and if you get the order, make it yourself. Vic G

The school is willing to spend around $650.00 to get this done. I was just wondering if anyone had done one of these and could give me some pointers on fastening the pieces together. From looking at the picture it didn't seem that hard to make though.

having made parade and show banners the biggestest problem you will have with a school is when they have a problem with it they will be back to you asking why and fix it for free. the people using it will change.
and your instructions will be forgtten in a heart beat. 27 years of dealing with teachers. taught me that.
Now to the question of frame, that size you are taking about. You will need 1 1/4 1 1/2"dia pvc comes in ten foot sections at the home centers 20 footers at plumbing supply houses. you can split the three poles in too two sections.use a threaded coupler for the size pice you are using. also glue the 90 at the corners to the up rights at the
corners use threaded fitting for the cross bar and at it center also. glue the fitting halves to the respective pole pieces. also make all poles with letters or numbers at the mating sections so the can put it together. a dremel or something to engrave deep.
The banner can be had from your choice of makers. but instead of an X cut talk them into a T cut. With the X the bottom section will be destroyed the frist or second time out when the team runs over it with the cleats. and all the other peole that will come through it.
With the T all the pices stay on the poles and be pulled out of the way.
about velcro. The kind with the glue back is great for some thing that will get only light use of being pulled apart slowly.
so it showed be senw on and small section only. also use the smallestest number you can get away with to hold the banner closed.
the more you use the more it takes to get open.
as to having the banner made up enclose a drawing with the T cut is going to be and have the add overlap at the cuts so when its closed you have no light gaps at the seams.
also it will be easier to paint.
tape it shut from the back and put the velcro
on after the banner is done.
pole pockets is the way to go. make sure they are a little larger in size so you connection fitting will slide thru easy. also you want opennings at the conners so the
top pole goes in easy.
If your not a brush slinger and will be using stickey stuff work it done in to the banner so you can see the weave of the banner. and try to lay it out away from the cuts. to keep problems down. remeber to keep a good picture and info on brand and type of vinyl used along with font and any tweaks you did.
when they pick it up have a couple copies of the written instructions on set up care and feeding of the banner. also have a statement about any damage from using it and the use of the banner is not in your control and not responseble for repairs to it from its use.
They ones they have seen on TV ect are generally one shots. if a pro team uses one it is heavy duty. on solid surface such as sintra ect. It also is set up by a team of pro stage hands.
Hope this answers your questions, and my bill is in the mail. LOL
