Same here...I just loved them. Also just read a sappy "chick" book, can't remember the name of it and I'm working on the last Harry Potter book.

I read too much! But one in particular I spotted the other day promises to teach me much. It's titled "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff . . . and It's All Small Stuff". After chapter 3, its become quite useful in my daily life and dealing with people and irritations. My brother actually disowned me about 6 months ago and it's really been a craw in my neck. All over an e-mail sentence that started out with how invaluable his input always is. Go figure - I couldn't - still can't. I've actually found myself getting mean over this whole situation. Thinking about it, what I would say or do if he ever called, and thinking the worst of him. This very simple little book has helped me tremendously put it in a perspective that I can deal with, and put on the shelf. If you find yourself getting mean & nasty over others actions, I suggest reading this book. It has helped me become a more relaxed person - I spend much more time on my own creativity and less time on worrying about the "small stuff".

I guess I am the voracious low brow reader amongst us... I am currently reading:
MYTHOLOGY--the DC comics art of ALEX ROSS (if you have not seen this guy's stuff you are missing out! http://www.alexrossart.com ) Nightmares and Dreamscapes, by Stephen King
On Writing by Stephen King
The Mummy by Anne Rice
Disclosure by Michael Crichton
The History of Art in Pictures by Gilles Plazy
Bernini, The sculptor of the Roman Baroque by Rudolf Wittkower
and finally....
TOLKIEN by Humphrey Carpenter
I think that's all of them. I also read a lot online and jkeep up with ten or so periodicals...
I have really started binging lately, and I don't really know why, except I am feeling the need to go back to work on my novel(s), and I don't know if I am doing it out of avoidance, or out of a desire to "gear up" for the tough task of getting started writing...
Sigh...other guys have Budweiser...I have Barnes and Noble

I rarely find the time to read a book any more, but I've found something that works even better for me. I get books on tape from my library and some weeks I go through 2 or 3 major novels. It is amazing how the day flies by when you are wearing a good book. I especially like them for when I am cleaning house or shop and when I'm doing any tasks that don't require a lot of thought. I have a little walkman with headphones. I love to escape into the world of Grisham, King, Patterson, etc. I've been able to cover so much more literary ground since I discovered the talking books. I also find them great for walking. I usually walk untill the tape needs to be flipped over and then head back towards home. That gives me 1- 1 1/2 hrs of walking.

Hi! I try to read every day. Sometimes I read late into the night...I have loved reading since I pretty much taught myself at age 4. I love anything by Stephen King, Anne Rice, LaVyrle Spencer (puke puke)and a Welsh writer named Mary Balough. I love ghost stories about Gettysburg, PA as well as Melody Beattie's books about codependency. I love the poems of Poe and Burns and almost any classics like those by Dickens or Alcott, or cool 20th century novels like Peyton Place, Alas Babylon, Portnoy's Complaint, Fear of Flying, etc. I love true crime stories about Jack the Ripper. My favorite all-time book is "Gone With The Wind" (of course) I have read it ten times since I was nine years old and my grandma let me read it when my mom would not. Also Mark Twain. What folks might not know about me is I have co-written a modern drama with my sister and am 13 chapters into writing my second book...now to find a publisher! Love- JILL ps my goal is someday to read The Bible in entirety!

I just finished reading Naked Empire by Terry Goodkind. It is the eighth book in the series. Really a fantasy novel that is really well done. I love reading his work.

Geoffrey Wellum - First Light The memoirs of a young man who joins RAF flight school before the outbreak of WW2 and flies as a Spitfire pilot through the majority of WW2. The Hobbit - I bought it for my daughter and realised it has been at least 20 years since I read it myself Harry Potter v1-4 (ad infinitum) because I wanted to see what the fuss was about, its a good yarn. The Lord of The Rings trilogy - to reacquaint myself with them before buying them for my daughter for xmas. Qantas Rising - (Hudson Fysh?) regarding the trials of early Au aviation.
If there is one thing better than reading books "at bedtine", it is comparing notes about shared books. At worst you know you have done one part of your job. Other good kids authors worth reading are Emily Rodder (young kids, particularly girls) & Eon Colfer Me, I like historical biographies, any suggestions of titles is appreciated. David

Otherwise I have been reading a book about the Glasgow Scotland slang called "The Banter" or "the Crack!" it's only making sense to the person who has actually BEEN to Glasgow...Funny!

Too numerous to list but this is the place for readers. they have a web sight but you really can't order on it. you can make up an order and snail mail it with a check. have been dealing with them for a couple of years. they send out a tabliod newspaper catalog about once a month. The last one was about 110 pages, new books, remender books, returns ect. They cover every subject, art to zoo's from 20% to 90% off. computer books are there and software help books, cooking, graphic arts, and everthing inbetween. Also great place for holiday gifts for readers. prices are so good I'm 35 books behind in my reading books

Yes just finished one of the most interesting books I've read in years (don't read much) but this came as a great surprise.
Recently we made a pilgrimage to the town where my ancesters settled in after immagrating to the USA from Prussia(now poland). After visiting a cemetary behind the catholic church in Fredericktown Mo. we were invited into the church and were surprised to find four 80 year old stained glass windows with our family name embossed in them...when I requested a history on the windows the church mailed me a 175 year history about the parrish and what a pleasure read and treasure it turned out to be.
Turned out it was filled with stories filled with our family history mentioning the family names throughout even mentioning that one of the preists there was from our family and the family name is permanently fixed to a document in a time capsule embedded in the corner stone.
What a treasure find and all because of a serendipitous encounter with an old woman we met while passing thru the parking lot as we were leaving.
Had we never met her none of these things would have been known to us...it has had our family in quite a buzz for about a two months now and searching for more and more information.
thanks for the post.

I got started on Patrick O'Brian's "Aubrey -Maturin series" several years ago, starting with Master and Commander. There are twenty books in all...sort of like the Hardy Boys series, only for adults. It got so that I couldn't imagine a month going by without going to sea with Jack Aubrey. The movie of the same name is quite a yarn in it's own right, and quite delicious...but the books are way better.
I wholeheartedly agree with Jeremy's opinion of Conroy's "Lords of Discipline"...Conroy's use of the language is simply sublime...I especially liked "Prince of Tides", and "Beach Music".

A big mixture- I always love Cheaper by the Dozen, and recently got Mathemagics ( how to do apparently complex calculations easily, in your head), plus an AI book, a Photoshop book or two, The Gulag Archipelago, Citadel (by Desmond Bagley), The Trachtenburg System of Speed Mathematics, How to Lose Friends & Infuriate People and a book on business principles that aren't business principles- can't remember the title, but it's not bad. The DaVinci Code sounds interesting- must chase it up. Sometimes I just pick up a book and stay there till I've finished it, other times it takes a few weeks to get through amongst others. Best wishes
