The more and more Donald and I have been working on the preparations for the meet and my view on what the letterhead movement is about we have decided to make the meet free. This I hope will mean more people will be able to come and it will be more enjoyable. Some of this is due to a new friend Artie Shiling. He had a great little meet and it was also free. We had the best time and it got me thinking that we also want to have fun at our meet so we will lose a little of the frills. I really think this will make it better for everyone. We are working with some of our venders to sponsor the lunches. There will be donuts and plenty of drinks for everyone. We will be printing shirts for any one that wants one for the meet and we will have a order form soon. We will probably charge 10 to 12 bucks for the tshirts. We never wanted to make money off of the meet and this is the simplest way to handle that problem. We will still have John Smith cooking brunch one day so we may ask anyone who wants brunch or what ever meal to pitch in. If you want to go out for dinner you can or we can pitch in and order something.Do any of you guys have a problem with us not having door prizes. We will giva away any thing we get but would rather ask venders to sponsor a meal or contribute to the cost of a meal. This is all up in the air so any comments or suggestions would be welcome.
The only thing that is for sure If you want to paint or work all night the doors will be open and come prepared to have a great time. Till next time kiddies this is your illegitimate Redneck rebel without a clue son signing off.

Ryan, That's awesome, just be careful you guys don't lose your shirts.
Rick Glawson's Conclaves were always very minimally priced, about $30 and that included the materials for your glass panel (you did have to buy the gold). Everyone went out to lunch in small groups, same for dinner and then would spend the late evenings hanging out at the shop. (Okay, I'm getting sad again...) Anyway, there's solid proof that it can be done.

Hi Ryan.. Wow...even more of an incentive to wish I was in Dixie. Free is great! Just be careful, dude...I still owe $300 for the Mars meet! I am charging $25/head for my small meet in January...no t-shirts, but I gotta rent a port-o-pot & feed yins good. Don't forget to swing by & pick me up, Mikey! Love- JILL ps I can always bring my kitty litter cake...?

Thanks Rapid Ray! This is a awsome idea. We will accept any donations in the mail and at the shop. If you would still like to send in the 50 bucks or you want to contribute 10 bucks it is up to you. We are still going to get sponsors for the meals so our cost shouldn't be to overwhelming. But here is the Kicker. All money left over will be donated to the Rick Glawson fund. I never knew Rick but from the stories I have heard I think he would have liked this idea.

I've hosted PanelRama at my place for a few years now, and it's also a free meet. We have three days of painting, gilding, airbrushing... 2 catered meals a day, lots of product to play with, and endless amounts of snacks, soda and coffee.
2003's meet cost about $1,400 to do. I garnished over $800.00 in sponsorship from vendors, (who were present to promote their product lines and services), and my wife and I flipped the rest of the tab. (we figured, 600 beans is CHEAP for puting on a party for 45 friends that last three days!)
If you have any questions on some of the details on how we pull it off, gimme a shout.
And I hope to attend...Donald talked me into it in Orlando earlier this year.
Rumor has it I'll see in Atlantic City in a couple weeks..
Keep on keepin on,
Brian

How much to shave Ryan's head? Maybe the single biggest contributor gets to do the honors. I'm also available for tips, just to keep the blood flow down to a minimum.

IS it warm enough there to have a nekkid head? So you're donating your hair, too! Mike, you got them fired up around the country, with the tropical shirt off your back at Tomahawk, and,(with Dave Butler, donating his shirt and all, a beautiful one, too kewl!) In years past, I didn't get to go to the actual "dixie meets" and should NOT have let 911 stop me from Pat's Duck Soup, (you guys were right, as I have a car and could have driven), but, then all the Dixie meets sounded awesome, down home, like you've never seen. Living in the south was a wonderful experience, folks, as it is the heart of America like it was "meant to be". Southern hospitality is all over the place; everywhere you turn. Don's Dixie up North meet was really fun too, kind of medium size and real personal! Donald is a super person, helped me out in a jam, but not only that, but, just a downright, downhome, decent gentleman and fellow letterhead. I can't imagine not making this meet! (and there's plenty of notice!) We're expecting our first snow, Monday. My oven's been baking for days! This meet I am planning on making, in addition to bringing baked goodies! (those transport well!) I always like to have an excuse to make sinfully, high cholesterol goodies! What do you guys want?? You do know about the company that sells tshirts for really, really bottom price, don't cha? I get email and mail all the time, It is called Hababand or something like that! Check them out! Donation jar sounds good! Mike, you swinging thru here too? (I'll write ya!)

Maybe yall could do a trade w. a caterer or food vendor for a free lettering job on their vehicle. (If I remember correctly) this happened in Memphis in '85, and alot of painters lent a hand on a Barbeque van.
You could also have a pot luck dinner, where people bring a dish or something special they prepared for the hungry hordes.
Folks could also bring their own t shirts to have screened at the meet.
If I can make it, I'll bring a stack of old Signs of the Times magazines for "door prizes". Maybe I can find some other goodies to donate as well.

Some have been wondering where the meet will be held. It will be held at my shop in Laurens,SC. Laurens is in the middle of the triangle made by Greenville,Spartanburg, and Columbia,SC. It is about 35 miles from Greenville and Spartanburg and about 60 miles from Columbia. I have maps that I could mail or fax to anyone that might want one.
