Things are going extremely well at our job at the mall. We're even ahead of schedule! Way ahead!
My estimate of when we are to leave keeps moving up as the crew hustles with all the last minute details.
At coffee time this morning we moved the go home time up to NOON TOMORROW!!!! Everybody was pumped!
Just before lunch I blasted out to the local hardware store to get a few last minute things we needed to finish and as I was driving back my cell phone rang...
It was my client at the mall requesting a meeting. I knew what it was about even though he didn't say. The meeting was scheduled in 10 minutes.
Last week we had bid another project as an extra job. The bid was regected as it didn't fit their budget. We didn't feel bad, as we really wanted to go home instead.
Now with six hours of work left on our current contract, they wanted to talk once more.
The negotiations were short... we got the job, at a price that makes it worth our stay. I didn't budge. The crew will earn a healthy bonus too of course.
Tomorrow we begin another job that will keep us here another week to 10 days.
If you happen to be in the area and wonder where we are... well, we'll be creating a new themed area for the flamingos near the submarine lagoon.
It's going to be fun little project!!
See you at the mall!

Today was a LONG one! But we got a great start on a very cool project.
The reality of finishing one big job and having to start another one when your taster was all set for the drive home hit hard today, not just for me but for the entire crew. I was really homesick today.
I started an hour earlier this morning to get the new job on track... and it was like pulling teeth once more to get the new work site organized. Our crew hit the ground running, only to be stopped dead when we arrived at the new job.
We had to wait for power, and water, and had to move the other trades junk out of the way to get enough room to work. The little work site was a little tense for a while there as the other trades weren't warned that we were coming. But I'm happy to report that everyone survived unscathed.
But by 9 AM we were cruising! I had the welder SMOKIN' and we wired with great haste. The crew accomplished enough to start the sculptural concrete by noon.
I got a little ambitious (make that a LOT!)when we mudded the sign and first couple of features late in the day and then I sent my tired crew home as I decided to finish the carving by myself. I'll tell ya... the evening sure went by fast as I speed carved the quickly hardening concrete. It was 10 PM before I could clean up the big mess I made ... concrete waits for no one... not even me!
As tired as I am now, I will be very happy in the morning... we gained a whole day today by pushing things.
It's too early to estimate an accurate finish time yet... but I would bet it will be very early next week at the latest.
