Tried to install Corel 8 on my pc today. Im running windows XP. It gets almost finished, but then gives a message that the drawintl.dll file will not load. What's causing this. By the way, this is a new licensed disk. I bought it off ebay a couple years ago. Im an illustrator user, but want to learn Corel too. Just now getting around to installing it.

When I got the new laptop, I wanted to go ahead & get Draw 11, but can't even special order software anywhere in this county. I figured I'd install 8 to get up & running then order 11 online. I know I had problems with it, but it did finally install. Unfortunately, I don't remember what I had to do to get it to install. Once I got 8 installed, I found there are 'issues' between XP and Draw 8, including the print options are unreadable. I got fed up & 3 hours, 100+ miles lated, I had Draw 11.

I have had v10 for over a year but no time to learn it due to so many things being different. I loved v8 but it just didn't work right on XP. I am now having to learn v10 and it's really slowing me down on design time.
I can't get the VELxi to work right on XP either but those good ole S***W***h***e idiots swear it will work.
Looks like it's time to hit Ebay for an upgrade!
I'm sure you didn't want to hear that!

Corel 11 and XP and win2000 work great for me. (XP on the laptop and 2000 on the desktop)
Trying to get "old" technology to work with "new" technology sometimes works. But quite often it doesn't.
Personally, I just upgrade to the latest when needed. I figure that paying $400, or whatever, for the latest is a very small price to pay, considering the money it generates in a week.
For those like John, who just want to "learn" Corel, or on the flip side, those who just want to learn "Illustrator" I guess we have to put up with the inconvenience of an outdated program that we can get "cheap" and won't work with newer operating systems.

eight is not one of the better corels. 7.467 was the best for 98SE. i got 10 loaded , with upgrades on a 98SE hard drive and also 10 on XP hard drive. 10 is as solid as 7 was. both work great no glitches..try this, copy the corel 8 install to a directory on the hard drive....then load it from that directory....some times it screws up tryinto move info from cd to program.

COREL 8 was the 1st version to incorperate a lot of code from another program called XARA. it was basically corel 7 with all the stuff from XARA added!!! so it should work ok once you get all the upgrades to it(if they are still available). 9 had some problems, ive seen it really mess up when fitting text to shape. but again with upgrades it worked ok. 10 only had 1 upgrade...but by that time they had most of the screwups fixed that was in 8 and 9.

Dave, I didnt buy it cause its "cheap". I bought it when it first came out, and it has coreldraw, photopaint, and coreldream 3d altogether. I just never had time to really fool with it, and now my new computer has xp and that seems to be the problem. I enjoy "learning" new things. I pretty much can do all I want with illustrator, but have a client that brings me corel files, and just thought it would be easier to install it and pick up what I can. Ive tooled with it before on my mac, using version 6, so I know a few things about it. Anyway, guess Ill learn later. Too busy anyway.

John, I read this problem a lot on the Corel newsgroups Haven't looked them up again since the February ice storm fried the PC, but I believe the words you want are Corel Users and Older Versions (of Draw and P-Paint). And I believe there were solutions described. Maybe Graphics Unleashed has a summary article online.

I have been running Corel 8 since I got this XP system without a hitch. When installing from cds, occasionally a file will not read. The file you're having a problem with is the initiation file that launches CorelDraw.
I know this sounds too easy, but just give the disc a cleaning and try reinstalling it again. If it still won't work, I'd be more suspect of a damaged disc than a compatability issue.
For what it's worth, I've always installed programs when they are purchased and at least find out if the discs are good. I may not get to play with the program for a while, but as long as I have the room on the PC, it's there when I need it.
Hope this helps... Rapid
