Thinking of buying a new computer...Is the $100.00 upgrade for a Intel Pentium 4 processor over the Celeron Processor worth it? Should I be concerned when working with todays sophisicated graphics we run up against?

Thank computer geeks

Matt

Yes most Graphic programns need the Cache mem that the P4s or Amd offer.. Celeron and AMDs cheapy are fine for..... Nothing Nevermind.. Buy the p4 or AMD.

The P4 has proved out to be the choice for what we do. You can't lose.

The Celeron is a good processor. Its great for CPA's, word processors and such. However, Graphics users need power and the P4 is great for that.

Software is only getting more complicated. You may keep your P4 for more years than u have other machines in the past because of the law of diminishing returns. I've kept my P4 1.7 gig a lot longer as a main server because its still faster than most things i do.
Get the fastest CPU AND the fastest bus u can get. Present bus is at 800 and that plus a 3.0 GIG CPU will keep you happy for years. With memory so cheap you would consider getting at least 512 megs of ram at the fastest possible speed you can find.

Gamers and tweakers really like AMD because of overclocking features and other considerations. However there are some video challanges with this CPU.

For some added info..

I just built a server with 2.8 gig P4 with 512 megs ram Intel based MOBO with ATI rage video. spent only $497 bux for it.. Its fast. so fast I use it for making DVD's. Instead of days before it takes just an hour or two to render and burn a full dvd.

Pentium Chips Always!

Neil--what Server software are you running with your new $497 server? I'm still peer to peer with 4 computers, but would like to go with a Server. But the dang software is so pricey. Thanks!

i got a celeron 433 laptop, it does what i need it
to do. i use it in the mobile shop. they are slower then pentiums due to front side buss being either 66 or 100 only. p4 and amd chips front side buss will go mostly 200,266,400...P4 are 400 to 800. this means it is quick....informatiuon is delt with nuch quicker...for $100 its worth it.
