Roy's post reminded me of my big blunder last week. I have a rule to ALWAYS wear safety glasses when using a grinder, but I was grinding on some metal with fiberglass bondo over it, and the dust mask was fogging up the glasses. So just once, I took off the glasses and squinted, taking my chances, it wasn't my lucky day.

I got a little teeny tiny piece of steel in my eye, smaller than a period on this page. By the second day of discomfort, I knew it wasn't just a scratch, as in times past. I went to the Dr man, 400 clams to get it out and run tests. Plus some down time.

The solution is a full face sheild, if I don't run up and down the ladder too much, and get huffing and puffing, it doesn't fog.

Grinders are the most lethal tool in the shop!!!
I hate them !

Why they don't have a "dead-man"s" switch on them I don't know. Switch them on and they run till yer switch them off [Frown]

Nasty accident: Working with grinder and phone rings. Turn it off. Also turned it off at the wall plug. While I was talking, the apprentice decided to finish the job for me. No go !!! He put it down on top of a padded stool and turned the power on at the wall. [Frown]

Stool ended up across the other side of the shop and the only reason the grinder didn't do major damage to life and limbs was the fact in it's travels it tore the plug outa the wall!!!!

I remove any "lock-on" switches from my drills for the very same reasons.
