Every day I get at least one - one page fax from someone advertising everything from trips to Vegas to mortgages and health insurance plans.part of what buggs me is the fact that there is no sender fax # in the top banner area. There is a 800 # where a "know-nothing" is waiting to take your order. I have joined every "fax removal" list there is, and it doesn't stop!
I spend lots of money to market my business. So, I am resentful of people who use my fax machine, telephone line, toner cartridge, and paper to sell somthing to me. Am I wrong??
Just a heads up...it's ok to advertise your fax on a card or in your marketing. Do not list your fax number with the phone company as such. They must sell their list to these cheap losers.

I hate those big time Rick. It is one of my pet peeves I guess, & I really let it get to me sometimes. A friend told me if I ever get one with a return fax number ('cept you probally never will ) to get a solid black piece of paper large enough to tape into a loop & send continously to their number until they run out of ink. It sounded good, even though I'll never find a professional fax-spammer foolish enough to leave themselves open for that. I've tried to call the fax removal service... that didn't do me any good, but probally got me on a "verified" working fax number list. Sometimes I call the Vegas trip people who don't do their own marketing, but I blast them anyway about how I would never do business with lowly scum like them wasting my fax paper.
It's a shame a nickles worth of fax ink, causes me to waste a few bucks worth of my time just because I'm neurotically upset over stupid inconveniences of todays technological world.

I simply did away with my fax machine and used the fax capability of my computer. Simple to delete them and only print out the ones that I want. No toner to waste on the junk ones.

I did call one of them the other day to land on them. I got a machine because they were in a different time zone. In the message, they included a toll free fax number....hmmm, maybe the black fax is the answer?!?!? At least this time. Maybe I'll call the others after hours and luck out with a fax number too...bonus if it is toll free!!!

I finally had to just turn off the fax machine unless I'm expecting something. I've noticed, though, that the telemarketers aren't bothering me since the no-call list went into effect. HOORAY

When fax machines first came out, spammers paid to get someone's fax number. In the late '80s, as soon as I set up my first fax machine, I gave my fax number to a property manager at a major real estate firm. A few minutes later, I had my first message... SPAM! I knew who was getting money on the side since that property manager was the only person on the planet except for me who knew my fax number.
My fax machine would not do a continuous loop but I still got back at one spammer. One time, a local company kept sending me four page messages after I repeatedly asked to be removed from their list. I took their advertisements, wrote all over them "REMOVE 555-8855", stuffed them in the document feeder, dialed their fax number and sat down to work on some drawings. Every time the machine finished feeding paper, I reached over and put it back in the feeder. When I finished my drawing, I had sent them 38 pages.
The next morning, I had another four page advertisement from them. I added that to the pile and sent them 43 pages while I worked on another drawing. I never got another fax from them.

Sorry Rick, fax is dinosaur technology and dead to me. I only deal with customers that contact me through my website, so if they're on my website they obviously have access to email.
I've never had a request nor a need to send or receive a fax!

Several times this past month I would answer my phone and get that fax tone. I figured someone was trying to send me an unsolicited fax, .. so ignored it...I don't keep my machine connected to the phone line unless I'm expecting or sending a fax.
I bought it to use in situations where it's necessary to send or receive a document, especially when a client doesn't have a computer (hard to believe isn't it?) and it's a convenient copy machine.
More so, I'm had it with the hundred+ email spams I receive every day!!! Filters and mail washers aren't stopping them, most have altered addresses.... i may just have to change my email address, since all of it is going to adrienne@splashsigns

I, too, was tired of running out of fax ribbon and paper from junk solicitors- where do they find us? I complained one day when my CPU tech guy came in and before I knew it he had me set up on a fax email. Don't know how he did it but it has a weird area code, doesn't cost me a dime, allows me to view the fax email with no loss of ribbon or paper.
I use it for ALL distributors and out-of-state customers. In state, I give them my actual fax number. It works great too, for saving fax emails to a file so I don't even have to print them out.
He comes to the shop every 2- 3 weeks and I'll find out how you can contact them via internet and get set up. You can even get a 1-800 fax number but that costs.
This may not be suitable for everyone- I surely don't want my in-state customers paying long distance charges to fax me but distributors are the only ones who know my real fax number since it's not printed and advertised on anything and I can only assume they are selling my number. I requested a new fax release number from each of them and within 2 weeks the junk stopped!
Some of you may be aware of this program but if not, be patient and I'll let you know as soon as I do.
Hope this helps ........ Linda

Mike, fax aint dead buddy. I use mine every day. Some of my customers even request faxing them the invoice when I do a job so they can have a check waiting. Others fax me the info to go on a sign when it contains alot of copy. Most of your customer base comes from the internet, so indeed, you probably dont need one. But when dealing locally, as most of us do, fax is still important to signshops.

Ditto John, My fax machine died two weeks ago, and I went to Sams that night because I cannot do without it. Especially for locals as you stated.
