I've been pretty good for the most part lately, especially considering that we've been working for five weeks in the largest shopping mall in the world!

But a couple of days ago we recieved confirmation of our next job which will keep us busy into May of 2004 and beyond. And that good news prompted a shopping spree of sorts today!

It was time to get some needed items for the new shop. Like usual, I set about buying quality as a first requirement as I have found in the past that saving money on tools often isn't much of a bargain in the long run.

First up was a rolling cradle and heavy duty chainfall for the big lift I-beam. With this handy device I can prefab very heavy features and safely lift them to my trailer for transport to the job site for installation. This has been on my wish list for a long, long time and we in fact built the shop around the heavy I-beam which sits above the big doorway. I also picked up a bunch of threaded eye bolts rated for 20,000 lbs. These are turned out and reused once the features are in place.

Second on my list was four 2000 lb capacity locking swivel dolly wheels. I'm going to build the heavy duty welding fabrication table of my dreams... no more bending over for hours to fabricate the metal structures we need. The table will easily roll on the polished concrete floor of our new shop.

The third item on my list was a CPU cradle from Lee Valley Tools. This cradle will be bolted to the underside of my new design table in my studio. It holds the CPU securely off the floor, and slides out on teflon guides and swivels for easy access to those pesky cables at the rear of the box. While there I also picked up some plasic 3" grommets which will make a neat job of bringing those computer cables up through the tabletop.

Since I was in the tool stores anyway, I picked up some new tape measures and a few other items I needed for the shop.

It was a fun day. While I was severely tempted by the tons and tons of tools around me, I kept to the shopping list for the most part. [Smile]
