We are ready to start a job doing 22 sandblasted sandstone tiles. Each tile is 12"x12" and will join to make one sign. I cut a sample mask today (Anchor 153) and applied it to the tile. I cleaned the tile as well as i could but it still did not stick very well. I have noticed if you flip over the tile and let it set overnight, the mask sticks a little better. Should i be using a different mask? We use the 153 for redwood and was all i had on hand. Thanks for any help!

Hey Brad

Jeff says why don't you just give us a call!
480-969-2668 (after 6pmish)
In the meantime, clean your sandstone, let it dry , seal it with either grout sealer or saltillo tile sealer. Use the 116 anchor stencil,or if it still doesn't stick
you might have to coat the tiles with anchor
stencil filler. After you paint your tiles, and have given them plenty of time to dry,the stencil filler residue can be washed off with rapid remover. This is why we use the tile sealer, because it aids in the removal of the stencil filler. The filler is not really easy to get off in any case...so if you can avoid using it, do so.
You really can give us a call in the evenings and Jeff would be more than happy to share his knowledge with you....he works with sandstone, granite, slate, etc. everyday
Hope this helps!
Karen

Brad,
We work with limestone and use 3M sandblast filler and contentental stencil #211. We don't seal the stone first as it tends to affect the paint penetration on any surface not blasted. Then clean the filler off the stone with a solvent and brush. It takes a little elbow grease. I run water over the stone before and during cleaning. It saves on solvent and doesn't screw up the paint. Kathy

Brad,
Anchor 153 is a medium tack stencil. They make a high tack for friction plotters and it is way more sticky than the 153. I think the number is 155. The 155 will stick to raw HDU for blasting where the 153 practicly falls off HDU. I use the high tack for blasting native rock. Not everyone stocks it though.
