I've done the looking through the past postings, I've downloaded the trial version, what i want to know is if anyone DOESN"T like EstiMate software? Seems as though no one who has bought it doesn't like it. Just checking and trying to decide if we want to go there yet.
Also, anyone have a used copy available? (sorry Mark, a dollar is a dollar!)
Feel free to p-mail me anytime!
Mark

There is only one thing I've heard that I didn't like about estimate... (I don't have it yet BTW)
And it ties in with your second question, if I'm not mistaken, estimate will not transfer the license for free like Adobe does with a signed release form from the former registered owner. I think it at one time Mark posted about a fee that I thought was somewhat high.
I'm not sure if it changed, but on their website, I found mention of a fee for seller to release ownership, & a reminder to buyers of used copies, that this document is required. There was no mention of fees for the buyer to transfer the license.

I also am an estimate user, and I'd just like to add estimate or any pricing software for the sign industry is probably more important than any of the machines you purchase for this industry.
Even at the full price Estimate is a bargain.
Good luck in your search!

Doug, we went through a couple of rounds deciding what the transfer fee should be (which is why you remember a more expensive figure) and finally settled on the following: the seller either pays $25 for a release or gives us three live referrals.
Please keep in mind that this is for a valid reason: when someone buys a used copy of Photoshop, for example, all it means to Adobe is changing the name it's registered under. For us, it also means allowing the new owner to use all the plugins for 60 days, while keeping a telephone relationship going (training, support and sales assistance). This represents more than $25 worth of work (by far) and by recovering a small portion of this cost we are able to better assist the buyer as they get started using EstiMate. The three referrals are a way out of the fee for the seller if they don't want to pay. As our software reaches the masses (4500+ shops so far) we had to get a system in place to help us manage transitions.
The secondary reason we require the seller to have a release form is that for a while people were trying to sell non-transferable copies of EstiMate on eBay and we needed a creative way to shut that down. An unscrupulous seller wouldn't dare try to get us to authorize the sale, so it cuts them off at the knees.
And Mark, a dollar is definitely a dollar - although you may want to factor in the lost benefits for the time you don't have EstiMate, which are for most sign shops about $25-$100 per day.
