The fires are a few miles inland from me, I'm near the beach where its not quite as hot and windy, but ash is falling like snow. Some friends had to evacuate and don't know if their house is still there. 200+ homes gone so far. It's a surreal atmosphere, hardly anyone on the streets. Pray the worst is over.

Unfortunately over 600 homes and 13 people lost now. It really is surreal. The sunset tonight was incredible though. The air feels thick with a burnt smell and I have a headache and catch in my throat. The news suggests people not go outside or exercise with all the particulate in the air. We're not directly threatened and I kept thinking today of the people who have had to evacuate and who may have lost their homes. I can empathize because during the LA riots I went to stay with friends on the outskirts of the city. I saw my apartment building on TV with fires all around it and it was four days later before I found out whether the building was still standing. It survived but with a lot of smoke damage. When things like this happen you realize how unimportant material possessions are.

I'm in Hemet, near the "Mountain Fire" my sister and her family (from Running Springs) are staying with my parents who live around the block from me. They got out Saturday, and they are afraid if it keeps going they will lose thier house, my Wifes kids live in Valley Center and Escondido, they were evacuated to San Diego's Quallcomm Stadium, they are trying to get to our house, but they have closed the freeway toward Riverside and the street toward Hemet through Temecula. So they might sit it out, but my wifes daughter was very scared, they could see the flames a few blocks away, the police escorted them out. My poor wife just lost her father last week, now she is very worried about her kids, she's gonna need a vacation after all this stress.

My heart goes out to those who have lost, and those still in peril, including all the animals, pets, etc. We're also praying for all the firefighters on the scene. Some of them are our very own Lockwood Fire District volunteers from Volcano. Out of 15 volunteer firefighters, we are now down to a small crew of 3 to protect our Northern Calif. area. The scope and magnitutde of these fires is Halloween scary - the worst. Let's all pray or if you don't pray, pass a good thought along. Karma works too! If anyone ever needs information on how to protect your home, what to do, fire safe clearance, please don't hesitate to call on me. Most people think "It'll never happen to me". Being prepared is the key, especially if you live in a mountainous area. Being the Board Director for our fire department, I have many resources at hand and am always willing to help anyone. For those of you living in the fire and ash areas, please take heed about the warnings for your lung's health. Thinking 'bout our southern neighbors . . . Bomba-Dear
