Hi All,
I' need some advice. This has never happened before & I'm not sure what to do!
About a month ago I met a guy in a bar. After some conversation about what we do for a living, He,s in the construction business somewhere in Colorado. We started talking about prices. To make a long intro short. He ordered some signs, 10 @ $60.00. I told him I require half down. He said he'd rather pay it all up front and gave me the money in cash and then gave me a phone number to call. I also give him my number. "Don't call me Monday" he said, He's gonna need that day to sober up (He'd been on vacation for two weeks and had been drunk the whole time, He was very drunk when I met him) I call on Tuesday and the number is not assigned to anyone! I call the number at least 4 times everyday for two weeks, still not assigned. I'm still calling several times a week with the same result. My question: What do I do now? I fugure he's so drunk he don't remember and judging by the wad of cash he had and was throwing around he has know idea where the money went! But I still have a moral dillema. How long do I sit on this money, I figure it isn't mine until I do the job!.

Give me the name of the bar.
Maybe I can catch the same guy there.

If you got the specs - make the signs. If not ask around at the bar or with others in the construction trade... if you can't find him & don't know what the specs are to make his signs... you got an interest free loan with an unknown term... just be ready to live up to your end of the deal when the time comes... till then use the money.

I put money like that up for 30 days. I have had people leave deposits and orders. I used to worry about it, now I give them 30 days (most times 60) and then use, recycle or get rid of it. This ain't no public storage.

If it really bothers ya, give it to a charity.

Is there a company name on the signs? Do an internet search if you have any kind of name.

If not, stick the money in the bank and forget about it.

A few years ago, I wrote someone a check for $600 and they never cashed it. I even called and asked if they received it and they said yes. To this day, I just leave it in the account as a cushion.

Well Glen...beats getting rooked any day.

I'm guessing you got a name and a town in CO. Maybe you can somehow contact a local directory.

Did he write the wrong number down while all juiced up.

If all fails to contact him, and morals are an issue, how about a donation to the de-tox center.

Good luck.

I wouldn't make the signs until he calls you 'bout 'em. Who knows what happened to this goofy "client".

You could also try calling variations of the number, in case the drunk was one digit off...

Don't worry about it too much...you may have just made 6 bills for nuttin"!

Asking around the bar is a good idea. Construction workers often find a bar near their jobsite and make that their temporary "cheers". If you got his first and last name, try a google search on him. Did he mention what construction job he was working on?

It all boils down to how much effort do you have to put in trying to find him before your conscious is ok with the situation.

Ok, I can't resist this... he was on a 2 week vacation in IDAHO? Didn't that give you the indication he wasn't working with a full deck? Who in the hell goes to Idaho on vacation? Does he have an unhealthy obsession with potatoes? [Eek!] sorry, just couldn't resist that. Please don't be offended.
