Design and construction of exhibition materials; custom-designed exhibition materials

Description

Environment Canada's Biosphère is launching a call for tenders for the design, construction
and mounting of the "Waterproof" exhibition that is to open on May 14, 2004.

Bids should cover design and graphic design services, audiovisual design, creation
and production (if applicable), provision of materials, the construction of structural
elements and fittings, the production of scripto-visual material, the transportation
and installation of the exhibition in the exhibition room, after-sales service (six-month
trial and maintenance period) and the management of preceding activities, including
all related fees and expenses.

Background

The Biosphère is a museum devoted to water, the St. Lawrence River and the Great
Lakes. It is located in the famous US Expo 67 pavilion on St. Helen's Island in
Montreal. It is the only museum in Canada devoted entirely to water and the St.
Lawrence-Great Lakes system. An average of 75,000 people visit the Biosphère every
year.

Young people represent the Biosphère's target client group. By 2005, the museum
will have completely reviewed its exhibition rooms with its younger clients in mind.
The exhibition room will take a hands-on (interactive) approach and will include
many games through which children will be able to learn about the properties of
water and the St. Lawrence River.

The "Waterproof" exhibition room is the project mandated under this contract. The
room will be completely fitted with interactive modules, whose common purpose will
be to provide information on water (i.e. water's main properties) through play.
All interactive modules will therefore use water.

Exhibition data sheet
 260 m²
 Permanent exhibition (eight years)
Nine basins/interactive modules, including a major hub (water machine), scenography,
scripto-visual panels
 Languages: English and French
As the exhibits will be geared to 5-to-14-year-olds, young children will need
to be able to manoeuvre and play, without necessarily understanding the purpose
of the game. The content must be accessible to 8-to-12-year-olds.

Tour

A mandatory job showing and tour of the exhibition room has been scheduled for November
12, at 1:30 p.m. All bidders must sign in with the security guard at the Biosphère's
main entrance, 160 Chemin Tour de l'Isle, St. Helen's Island, Montreal, Quebec.

Bid submission

Contractors' bids must clearly and accurately demonstrate their ability to complete
the project and must be written in either of Canada's two official languages, as
set out in the specifications. All bids will be evaluated and rated by an in-house
committee. An evaluation grid will be used to calculate bidders' final scores (see
specifications). The bid with the highest overall score will be selected.

Bidders are required to submit five copies of their written bids no later than 2
p.m. on December 2, 2003 to the attention of Jacques Blais at the following address:

Any bids received after the deadline will not be opened and will immediately be
returned to the sender.

For additional information, contact Jacques Blais. All questions and answers will
be e-mailed to all bidders. New information will be posted on Merx as addenda.
The specifications for the call for tenders are available in both of Canada's two
official languages.
