I know there's an answer somewhere- I used to be able to do it, but I've lost the answer! How do you set Windows Explorer to come back to the same directory tree display when you open it up, as the one you had when you last shut it down, please? It's a real pain having to jump down through several directories in explorer to get to a file each time you want it, when you were there not long beforehand, but shut it down in the meantime. Thanks in advance!

i think hitting the F5 key will set the window to refresh, and that may remember where it was last left at. or you can create a shortcut the the folder directory that you want (right-click save as shortcut). or from Explorer window if you go to View>Folder Options you can set each folder to have different properties and set the window you want to those preferences.
the shortcut may be a better bet if you always want to go to a set directory or folder.

Thanks Scott, but no luck! The shortcut idea is good if I'm going there a lot, but not for what I'm after- a lot of looking in the same area in a short space of time, then somewhere else for a while etc. F5 and using View folder options didn't fix it (unless I'm doing something wrong or missing something). Thanks though.

hmmm... you can make a "network" from the directory you want. in explorer find the root of the directory tree you want, right-click and make that directory a network connection. now in your explorer drive selections you should have (A: floppy, C: harddrive, D: CD/DVD, E: directory x) and so on. you can set up drive letter and such however you like then.

I just minimize mine instead of closing it. That way as my workflow has me accessing & saving files to the same folder while I work on any given job, each time I maximize explorer from my task bar, it is still displaying the same directory where I had left off.

Thanks Guys for the advice. Yes, I've done some of those ideas, but I know there's a way of setting Explorer somehow to open up again where you last left it off. An option I found was to right click on the explorer icon, and go to properties>shortcut>target and you'll havee something like C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /n,/e,C:\ The switches mean different things /n means open a new window (but makes no difference to me whether this is there or not), /e means open an expanded window (folder tree onleft, files on right), c:\ means open up the C drive at the top. You can change this to D:\My Docs or something else if you want to. That's interesting, but still not quite the answer!! Thanks (PS nice panels)
