I'm really proud of the work we do... and I mean "WE". It is truly a team effort these days.
When I first started out the jobs were small enough I could handle everything on the work site myself. That changed in a hurry however as the jobs became more complex and bigger in scale. Now, there's few jobs we tackle that I could do on my own.
The job we are doing here in Edmonton is a good example. Janis is holding down the fort on the home front, and keeping mighty busy doing it too! She does all the office type stuff, making sure we keep current and everybody gets paid on time. She returns many calls for me, as she is very knowlegable about our complex business.
Here in Edmonton, Rebecca (my favorite daughter) is in charge of the painting, but does many other tasks as needed. She is an amazing artist who likes to think things through carefully before starting a project. She is the organizer of our site, and keeps all the important details on track.
Phoenix (my favorite son-in-law) is my right arm and does an amazing amount of work each day. He welds, wires, plasters, paints, and a thousand other things. He is one talented dude!
Carla (who happens to be my niece) is relatively new to the crew. She tackles every task we give her with enthusiasm and good humor. So far she can do everything very well, and with good speed too. She works circles around most guys I've had in the past and with a charming smile the whole while.
Corey is nothing short of amazing! He does the work of two ordinary men. He's our chief mud-mixer but does anything else we can throw at him too. Cory LOVES to work HARD and likes to push the whole crew to accomplish an amazing amount of work each day! He is always giving me a VERY hard time about EVERYTHING, in good fun.
Wendy will start next week. An experienced hand on our crew, she will be primarily a painter on this job. She can do it all! She has her own business doing similar work, but she is coming back for a few weeks to help us out. The massive mural will have her name on it!
These talented folks are so skillful and able at their tasks, it allows me to get my hands dirty and spend little time worrying about them.
My job varies through the day. I am site manager, working with the mall trades, and outside forces. I spend most mornings (while the park is closed) under my welding helmet, building the armatures our our sculptures. I find with our productive crew chasing me with the wiring I can barely keep up. In the afternoons I do whatever I can to help out. I often take on a favorite feature as a personal project.
I also do a bunch of the mudding and carving in general. I even get to paint some as we get to the end of a job and everything comes together.
Everybody helps everybody on our sites and we all do whatever needs doing at the time. We have lots of laughs through the day as we work together.
I'm having a blast here in Edmonton, as is the entire crew. I believe the work we produce shows it!
A big thank you is due to my fine, fine crew!
