I have Quickbooks Pro 2003. For some reason my emailed invoices and estimates are not sending out correctly in PDF format. Most all of the text is garbled up and unreadable. Here is what I have tried so far:

1. Uninstalled Acrobat Reader 6 and install Reader v4.05

2. Uninstall and remove all Quickbooks stuff from Registry. Reinstall and restore backup. Got all the updates from Intuit. Still screwed up.

3. Tried sending them with and without the online payment option checked.

When I do a print preview or print it comes out fine. It's something in the translation to PDF I guess.

I was running this on my XP machine that will no longer turn on for some unknown reason. I had to go back to my win98SE machine. The restore was from a backup done on XP. This is about the only thing I can think of. Quickbooks won't talk to me without paying $75 for 20 min. and $25/every 5 min. after that. YEA RIGHT!!

I also ran Norton Antivirus and found nothing.

So any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'll fax everything before I give them that amount of money. What a crock!! [Mad] [Mad]

I know this is not helpful, but I just tried sending an invoice from my quickbooks for the first time and it worked fine, I have vs 4.0 on acrobat and windows xp, and quickbooks pro 2003. You may have that damn worm virus on your xp computer, one of the symptoms is that it keeps shutting off. There is a way to stop the shutdown and delete the worm, but I'm not sure how to do it, symantec or norton will have it in their site. The proble with viruses and stuff is they aren't always detectable. I got an virus in an e-mail once, and spotted it as one right away, so I copied it to a disk and scanned with my virus software and it didn't detect it. Computers aren't fallible, but if you know how to look for the worm you can get rid of it!

sorry I have no help to offer, but I wondered if the ability to convert your quickbooks document into an email document is a Quickbooks feature, & if it is standard, or an extra feature you paid for?

I just checked my quickbooks to refresh my memory of what I had seen in the past. A on-line billing service for an extra $14.95 per month. Is this what you have? "Deluxe billing"? I saw some mention of "basic billing" but if that is a cheaper service (or free maybe... NOT!) they have conveniently hidden it away & just mention it briefly (to sell upgrades to those who already got it)

guess I just wondered if you found a free method, besides hitting the "printscreen" button & attaching a .jpg file.

Maybe you had set some font preferences on your XP machine that came in when you restored from the backup file, that is now asking your W98 machine for a version of a font not installed on that machine?

Stacy, Actually my processor died and we got a new one but there is something else wrong. It is toast. Everything was new from scratch and it won't power on anymore.

Doug, you don't have to use Deluxe Online Billing to be able to mail invoices and estimates. since version 2002 Pro I think.

Wow, a little more looking, (once I had reason to believe it was worth looking)& lo & behold I do have that feature with my QB Pro 2002... someday if I start reading software manuals, I just might learn enough to be dangerous.

Thanks for inadvertantly clueing me into something I will find very useful Amy, I hope you resolve the funky fonts.

Amy,

Adobe has an on-line forum area in their web site to ask questions to other users who may be having similar problems.


Go to www.adobeforums.com and go to the Acrobat Win forum. The first topic on the list is the FAQ section and there are some topics there that may help you. One mentions that some ISP's interpret PDF files as 'text' and they get scrambled. ??

Thanks Dave! Looks like the only way I'll get it resolved is by spending a fortune. Guess I'll have to deal with it. The converter is built into QuickBooks and is a Third-party company not Adobe.

Amy,
Do you have a Bunch of fonts loaded on your PC.
I know Windows 98 had a problem if you had too many fonts loaded. I dont know about XP as I dont use it.(I still use 2000 pro). Just a thought as I know Photoshop had problems also if you had too many fonts. (Maybe its an Adobe thing to make you Buy their fonts)

Well I still haven't figured anything out. Even with all my ranting about Dell I still said forget it and went and bought a new workstation with the 3 year warranty so I don't have to deal with fixing my own junk anymore and can have a computer to rely on.
