I recently remarried to a wonderful woman a few months ago, my new father-in-law had been sick for the past few years, three weeks ago he called to ask if we could take care of him, we cleared a room out for him, took him for a check-up, the doctor confirmed he had 2 weeks-2 months, he lasted 2 weeks and 1 day, we had a wonderful and diffucult experience, we are glad his pain is gone, he past away in a fimiliar environment, with his daughter holding his hand. I have dealt with death before, but not in this way, I have a new found respect for all of you who have lost a parent, and saw them suffer. Hospice and my father was a big help, and guided us through it, and I know he is asleep, without any pain. I want to acknowledge in whatever way possible, the strength my father has given me by not being afraid, in taking care of my father in law. Everyone who showed up were afraid to even go in the room, and I don't blame them, me and my wife hardly slept, but we did it. Everyone who has taken care of thier parents or loved ones should be proud of thier sacrifice, in giving thier parents honor and respect. Now that I know what most of you have had to do, I have even more respect for a lot of you who have posted the deaths of thier parents on this board, and I thank you for sharing, it helped so that I could help my wife get through this difficult time.
Respectfully Rick

Rick -- So sorry to hear about your father-in-laws passing. Having just gone through it I know there's no words comforting enough at a time like this. The fact that he died clutching your wife's hand is moving. I held my grandmother's hand as she passed, and two of my sons witnessed their grandfather's recent passing. In time your wife will cherish that moment. To me it's an honor to be with a love one when they pass. Jane and I want to express our deepest condolences to you and your wife.

What could be better than having your dearest ones holding you?
So sad, and our thoughts and prayers are with you. The day before my father passed away, my children and granddaughters went to visit him, and then my sister was with him that final day holding his hand. May your grief be restored with peace from our Heavenly Father who knows our needs and is always there, Rick. God Bless.

Peace be with you & your wife & family Rick. I am glad that the extended family here has in some way prepared you for this moment. I have also found additional strength or understanding through the words of our neighbors here & know that many of us, including myself, have shared our grief here because of the mutual respect we all share.
