Well we had a nice, laid back sort of meet...just about everyone came that said they would, and the whole day had a pleasant tone to it. Dusty Yaxley was amazing with his wood carving. The way he sharpens his chisels, he can v-carve a 3" script as fast as you can paint it ! Just really good. Everybody had a chance to try something with his chisel, to feel how easy it was cutting the wood.

There was a man there from Williston, FL, named George Morris, who has got to be one of the best pictorial artists I have ever seen. He's a retired journeyman signpainter, and he also does dimensional signs, airbrushing, wood carving. The man is a treasure. And the man lives only about 20 miles from me ! I,m definitely going out to visit him soon....I already warned him. I'd like to see if he would be interested in coming here (letterville), so others can benefit from his years of experience.

For lunch, we all drove 4 blocks to this little restaurant that makes dynamite pizza. While we were waiting for our orders and yakking, my co-host Robbie's wife Janet came through the door with her all girl bluegrass band, Patchwork. It seems they were on their way to a gig, and decided to stop by and serenade us. Which they did ! Very cool. Then they sat down and had lunch with us...............

Back at the meet, Don Copeland took a bunch of pictures, which I'm sure he'll share when he can. I hope to have some to post shortly that others have taken. Oddly, there wasn't a whole lot of painting going on, but the conversation was good. Robbie's fork lift got a flame job, though, and we had a sign-in board. I guess one day is a pretty short amount of time for doing painting projects, by the time you get there, meet everyone and talk, eat, etc., it really only leaves a few hours to do stuff. We might do this again for 1 day next year, and we're thinking of maybe trying a group project, to give the meet more of a focal point.

But I think everyone had a good time, and I want to thank those who came. I hope you all have a safe trip home. Thanks are in order for Signcraft Magazine, Diamond Supply, Tubelite Co., and Gold Leaf Letters, Inc., for donating the door prizes.

And Happy Birthday Mr. Mayor, and we appreciated your words of encouragement.I think these little one day meets have a good future, don't you?
