Can anyone help from their experience with suggestions for the best way to seal Signgold's edges. I'm not gonna use that "pen" anymore. Thanks for your help. Ray

Basically your only other approved option (besides THE pen) is oneshot "UV clear" brushed on the edges of the signgold, but I'm sure if you contact Brian at Signgold he can set you straight.
Signgold and edge sealing has been a major debate on this BB recently and I for one will go with what Brian says as I have known him for a few years now and trust his recommendations regarding Signgold.
Besides, if you do it properly, then you have a valid complaint when it comes to warranty concerns, and Signgold seems to be responsive to warranty issues and fair resolution of them.

Harris hit the nail right on the head. (And there have been times I suspected Harris had just been hit in the head as well ) Some 1Shot 4005 UV Clear, on a quill will do the trick. Just a bead to seal it is all you need. (Igenerally use a #1 or 2 quill, a scrolling script brush, or I've even been known to use an Xcaliber striper to seal SignGold.
And of course, as always, just seal the edges...never try to seal or clear over the surface.

Just wanted to make another comment on edge-sealing SignGold.
I know many of you have your own preferences for clears to seal with...so what I'll say is this:
It's imperative that you edge seal the SignGold, by whatever means. The company is continually testing product in a QUV Weatherometer chamber, and trying alternate combinations of sealers, backrounds, and environmental circumstances. SignGold's testing has shown that bar none, the 1Shot 4005 UV Clear is providing the best results in edge sealing. However, if you prefer Frog Juice, or the 3M sealer, or Pelucid, or whatever else...you CAN use it. But please understand that the 1Shot 4005, is what we recommend, it's one of the first questions that gets asked on the rare occassion we have a warrenty issue, and it's proven itself to our chemists at the plant.
In short, we'd rather you use the 1Shot. It's what's specified in the instruction sheet, but by above all else, just edge seal with something.
Thanks
Brian

Does edge sealing go for Signgold striping rolls too? I was thinking of using some 1/4" on a pretty large truck, but may not if I have to edge seal both sides of the stripes.
Yes, if you expect the full 10-14 year life of the Signgold, edge-sealing is a must. The exception being our 1/2" tapes with built-in black borders.
Let me reiterate, that SignGold products were never developed to be competative with the vinyl market, rather to compete in the gilding market, and bring genuine gold into the shops that do not offer traditional gilding. Ironically, it's been the traditional gilders that most readily accepted SignGold, and saw it's benefits.
To look at your project from a different perspective: If you were to gild that same 1/4" stripe on a truck, you'd have to size it, gild it, and then clear it. Comparatively, edge sealing doesn't sound so bad huh!!??
If I can help with anything, just call the tech line, posted previously in this thread.

That's pretty much what I expected to hear; just thought I'd double check.
Unfortunately, my gilding skills are zero, and I want to add Signgold to help fill that void. At some point (when I get the time) I certainly plan on learning proper gilding techniques.
