Ok all you computer geniuses - What is the best way to convert a cdr file to a bitmap and which of the common ones - bmp - tiff ... will produce the best results for printing small text? I have to send a business ad to a printer and I don't know which way to go. Nothing I've tried seems to be working satisfactorily yet.

Easiest way would be to select the graphic you wish to convert, click >Bitmap>convert to bitmap, then select, Mode (24 bit or 32 bit, most printers prefer 32bit) and resolution 300 is fine for most printers. you can then export the resulting bitmap as either jpg or tiff (jpg is smaller, tiff is more accurate).
If you have a later version (9 or later) you can also convert the file to a .pdf which most printers also like, (prints text as text and not a bitmap at all) This is found under FIle>Publish to PDF

don't mean to confuse the issue Kelly but are you sure the printer requires .bmp files?
most of the printing folk I know ask for .eps, some want .ai or pdf as Mike mentioned
I'd just double check with the printer and tell him that since you have corel so you can export as just about anything... what's his best option?
he will love you for it if he doesn't have to deal with crappy bmp's I would imagine
like I said I really don't want to confuse your situation, and Mike has given you the best direction anyway without having to ask the printer for his specific best choice
good luck

Kelly..To add to what Mike and Gail said. I just select the stuff I want to convert to bitmap and then use FILE>EXPORT>BMP (or whatever format I want) and do it. It exports in that format at the resolution I specify and in the colour format I specify and to the directory/folder I specify.
Extremely easy process.
