A customer sent artwork on cd. Two sets of artwork saved at different times. I can see and open the last one he saved to the cd, but I can't open or see the first one he saved. The cd says there is 400 meg of file on it. The one I can see and open is about 5 megs. He uses a mac and I use pc.....we have figured out how to save files for me to be able to use but this is the first time for the partitions.
any ideas????

I think it has to do with your cd reader/writer not reading the multiple writes and only the last write. I bet the only solution would be to have your client re-write the disc without multiple volumes on the cd.

P.S. If you have a writer you may want to try to import both volumes and see if you can re-image it yourself.

I don't think you can partition a CDR disk drive. The Mac writes a few folders, and files it needs to run while formatting for PC. It could be that the #400MB are in Mac fromat, that PC's can't see.
At our shop, we have a five station network, with one being a Mac. We've found out that we can share files if; you save as an Adobe Illustraitor, no guidlines, and its converted to lines or curves.
I'd like to hear what you other Letterheads do to transfer file between Mac and PC.
The software that works best for us is Adobe and SignLab 5.0

std cd is WRITE ONCE ONLY, no matter how big the files are. once the writer closes the cd....its done.

Hi guys, This is Jen not Bob. We get a lot of files from everywhere because of producing AutoArt, we operate pc and when we started receiving more and more mac files I called micro warehouse to buy a mac system to have here. They instead sold me a little program called "Conversions Plus Suite for Windows" and I have had no more problems. Usually it just automatically converts for me and I can open any file without even knowing it's there. Once in a while I will have to go directly to it and ask it to convert a file into the format I wish but not very often. I think I remember this program costing about $60. --Jennifer

Actually, you CAN write multiple times to a normal cd without using direct cd or innero, etc. (thats what I believe has happened here).
You are correct Old Paint, in that once its closed there is no more writing, BUT, before you close it, you can write to it as many different times as you want...each time you want to write to it, just import the old volume (This only works if you havent closed it).

Sounds like you just got a multi-session disc, ie: a CD-R that was written to, not closed, then written to again.. which produces additional volumes but disables the volumes that were already on the disc.
Is the CD in a regular CD-ROM drive, or a CD burner?
Normal CD-ROM's and older CD burners cannot read multi-session discs made on other drives. *Some* newer CD-ROMs and most newer CD burners *can* read multi-session discs.

I tried it at home and at work, both are burners. Neither would see the other files.
At lunch I took the cd to a buddy across town who uses mac. It showed all the folders on his mac so I had him burn another disc with the files I couldn't get. Kind of an unhandy solution, but it worked this time. I'll just have to remember to tell them not to burn the cd in sessions when they send me artwork.

I use MAC Opener by Dataviz to open Mac files. It has worked well for us. I do not remember the cost but it wasn't bad. Well worth the price in any matter.

This wasn't because I couldn't open them. The ones I could see opened fine. They had been saved in two sessions but only one session was showing up on my pc. We just burned another cd with the rest of the files and I can open them fine too. I just don't know why all the files wouldn't show up on my pc.
