I loved the "oletimers" that would call your name and simultaneously throw the pounce bag (usually the black one)if you looked you got it in the face if you didn't look you got it in your ear.
This was usually reserved as entertainment for the Journeymen...if you retaliated you'd find yourself cleaning fitch's or the paint bench.
And god help you if you threw one and it hit a freshly lettered sign...no no no.

First throw it in the washer/dryer then re-wet it, twist it into a cyclone lookin' deal and shove it into the pounce bag sharpener. WHALLLLLA!

It is call a number 12 Charcoal stick. Drag the point around the perforated paper pattern area......It will self sharpen as you go along. Next wipe areas with a rag to force powder through the paper.
Did I win anything?

I resisted those Hansee boxes for several years, preferring the tradition of a sock that I wore out creating memories. Eventually I converted. I still do have some Bull Durham string tie bags with cotton and white chalk powder in them, but I don't feel sharp nor do they when I use them.
Mike, I'm hearing a new term from you and awaiting your explanation.
You have our attention.

I'm sorry, but first you'll have to unwrap the bag and get rid of the powder in it. Then wash on heavy duty cycle.
While the cloth is being washed start cooking the Argo Starch. Sorry but that new fangled spray stuff doesn't work on pounce bags. Cook it up really thick.
While the cloth is drying go to the closet and get the dunce hat they gave you when you graduated because you wore it more than anyone else. Mine is on the top shelf.
Dip the cloth in the starch place it over the hat (the pointed end) and let it dry. Repeat process on the first of each month.

I thought abut how messy pouncing is at times and got an idea from it. Just went out to the shop and whipped this up. Poor Man's Pounce Pencil....
Garlic shaker, tshirt, chaulk in the bottle and some masking tape
...pretty easy to figure out...
Cap goes right back on and the chaulk stays dry.
Works pretty good, too.
Thanks, Mike for the post. This one's gonna be in the paint box for a long time to come. Rapid

You had us going Mike, after using pounce bags for years and getting all messed up, I find that just rubbing a charcoal stick on the pattern and wipe with a cloth is much neater. In fact, the charcoal pounce powder is not as heavy when doing this. The opposite for a white pounce is chalk.
When working in a corporate office, the charcoal powder does not look very pretty on their rug.

Don't forget the blue, and red chalk line powder also. They make great colored nasal "bombs" too! Will GOLD BOND medicated powder, relieve cramps from lettering too much? Hmmmm. Something to think about?!

whats wrong with a dull pounce pad? I find it offensive that you pick on the underdog.And.....its pad....not bag be politically correct shame on you and just when elections are right around the corner

Yeah, Jill, you should be using the blue powder only, that way the boogers will match your hair. demonstrating good color coordination is important in this business, ya know.

I prefer the charcoal stick for small to medium stuff, big it on the larger.
but...dust unto dust...it's a must.

OK Fellow Letterheads....Once the Bag becomes "DULL" take it to a Grinder, make sure all loose clothing is tucked in, for large breasted gals, step back further, (Saftey is our Main Concern Here) You Americans have this "OSHA" law that requires Saftey goggles as well as Steel Camel Toed thongs....Then place your bag, not that one, and commence to sharpen to a fine Charcoal edge. For Left handers, just have a right hand person do it, or purchase one from Ned Flanders Leftorium a Doodley Doo!
Howdy Neighbor!
Here is a photo...to help you folks out... Good Luck....Cheers

I'd say freeze it and then run it through the planer in the wood shop so it is flat then use a belt sander that you have clamped upside down on the wood bench to sharpen away to a pointy tip! Reminds me of a joke! (go figure!) How do you make a dog sound like a cat?
Freeze him and then run him through the planer....MEEEOOOWWWWW!!
How do you make a cat sound like a dog?
soak him in kerosene and throw a match at him....WOOOOOFFF! I REALLY DO like animals! IT"S A JOKE!!
