It all depends on your application technique, Adam. If you APPLY the paint to the floor, it will flake off. If you accidentally SPILL it on the floor while lettering a sign blank, it will stick forever!
Sorry I couldn't help, this is a new one to me.

Make a template, bond it to the linoleum, sand the copy centers and use "Floor & Concrete Paint". It will work on linoleum.

It would depend on what you are refering as linoleum. Sheet goods seams or they are far apart. and older than the last few years. Pierre is right about sanding. But aword of catution about sanding linoleum(older type). It is considered a ACBM in the hazard materials biz. Asbestos containing building material. Sanding with out a mask and good filters on a vacuum, could cause loads of trouble. With seams close together as in tile 6x6,9x9,12x12 ect. if its older style it is also considered ACBM. both were made with cork, for a filler and a little shock absorbsion and asbestos fibers for strengthing it. nalong with assorted oil bases stuff to glue it and color it. the new stuff is generally some type of vinyl home stuff thinner and a printed plastic sheet bonded to a solid color base. Comm/industrial stuff thicker and color goes all the way through. sanding the tile or sheet goods should be done after any wax or floor sealer is removed with stripper. New sheet flooring/tile for comm/ind usaully doesn't come prewaxed. has a dull sheen. An oil based paint on the thin side will sink in to the linoleim or floor tile a little getting a good bite. after it is painted and set then cover the design with a good floor seal and wax water based if you use oil paint with I would since most of the floor wax stripping gunk out their is based on ammonia compunds and other stuff to melt and loosen not only the old wax but dirt ect.
The other important thing in your bill or other info you give them is no warranty, after the first use of stripper for cleaning. depending on where it is in a store might be a week before the floors are done, school generally at holiday breaks and heavy duty in the summer.
You may what to see if anybody on the board does the full colr vinyl floor graphics. You could sell them a package deal say four and installation when they call you for replacement when it looks shabby some store here have them and change them weekly. If its for a school. in a hallway or gym lunchroom. Talk them into a nice wall graphic.
I speak from 27 years as a Facility Manger for a large school system in the Detroit area. Day job and a night and weekend letterhead in the outdoor show biz area. hope this helps. Probally more than you wanted to now lol

All the years I have been in the sign biz I don't ever remember painting a tile floor.
I do remember my mentors calling in a professional to remove a section of floor tile, cut a new different color tile to the shape of the wording, and reninstall.
