I wonder how many use newsletters as a way of letting clients know that you're still around? I find they can be a good way to promote new products or services. Do you post or email them? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Hi Cam. I don't use a newsletter but am planing on starting one later this year. Right now we are getting a database of our clients names and addresses together using Maximixer.
I belong to a small networking group of business owners that trade leads and ideas on how to improve each others businesses. Back in December I gave a profile of our sign business and asked for methods to make it grow. One consultant in the group is convinced I could get 20% or more sales just by puting our name in front of our existing customers on a regualr basis.
Send me your address and when we get it all together I will send you the premier issue.

Hi There We use flyers as our sole means of promotions. Businesses only through Australia Post. Have tried mailing to households but have had poor results doing so. When we started we put them out every 5-8 weeks, but now just a couple of times a year. We promoted at the beginning of this year as last year, the GST part, was a bit quiet and I wanted to kick this year off, and the flyer certainly worked. We usually promote one or two things heavily in the flyer and mention all our services. We find it is often our regulars that contact us first. Keeps them as regulars. Our next promotion will be targeted direct mail for a particular service, a mixture of regulars and prospectives Kerry Wright Print Wright Gladstone Australia

I feel a newsletter is too time consuming to self publish with any reuglarity & still be profitable. If you were considering it as an alternative to a larger yellow page ad. things may be different. Unless you can get some "canned" copy, you may drive yourself crazy trying to come up unique & interesting stories customers would read. I would consider making a monthly calender with your customers signs, vehicles, etc. replacing pictures of the babe , mountain scene, etc. A customer would probably hold on to it for more than a year. Heck you might even be able to sell a few A lot of the quick print places are doing these fairly cheap. Havin' fun,

Brian, Calendars are a good idea, and I like the idea of the 'signs' theme but for me the whole idea of newsletters is the regular contact with the client, whether it be monthly or just three times a year. We all find competition trying to take away our regular customers, loyalty seems to be a thing of the past. This way you are saying 'hey, we're still here!' IMHO
