I built a sandblasted redwood sign and installed it on a post in my client's front yard. Sometime later, I drive by and notice holes in it, four to be exact, in a neat row across the front face. A woodpecker had attacked it and one of the holes was clean through the 1.5'' thick sign. So I figured it was after carpenter bees, which I have found in a redwood sign on one occasion.
So, I built him a sign out of HDU.... My wife drove by this weekend and noticed the wood....HDUpeckers are attacking that too.

Hah-Hah-HAh-Hah!!! Woodpeckers don't seem to be worried about the materialas much as how the material looks. A month or so back, I opened my garage early one Saturday morning and heard a woodpecker at work. The sound was very lound and clear. That sucker was working on the Hardi-Board facia on a neighbors house. It wasn't long before he had a good size audience.

Wayne....those poor little fellers have probably have probably knocked something loose in their head with all that hammerin'...maybe they keep returning to an old nesting site, and are too cross-eyed to tell it ain't there no more. I bet they can't even walk a straight line !
