While in Britain in August, I met a Signwriter, Wayne Osborne, in Midhurst, Hampshire. We talked nonstop for 4 hours , he's a Traditional Signwriter, all brush. Seeing some work in his shop, I asked what brush he used. Next, i'm ordering (thru him) 2 sets from 00 to 5(14 brushes in total.) Cost: 65 pounds, we pay cdn $2.25
for a pound. A great deal, i figures.

From: Handover www.handover.co.uk

Series 2112 Pure Red Sable Writers. I re-letter vintage Coca Cola coolers, embossed lettering, I knew these would improve my work. Sure enuf, did one today, so much more control, i can even go down over the "edge" to approximate the "real thing" originals.

I'm using oneshot white with a touch of hardner and 6000 reducer(all oneshot stuff)

They use sables exclusively over there, i'd still use quills for most work, but for this type of thing, these are hot!!

Good for you, John...
I think they call them "pencils" over there, don't they?
When I was across the pond this August, I also heard brushes called "ferrules". They have a flattened metal ferrule, like a truck lettering brush. I didn't see any quills, which is what I use.
John Jordan sent me 2 round-ferruled brushes from Germany. They are smooth as silk.
Happy painting!

Hi John...I laid my hands on a couple of Handovers when we went to Ireland in 99'...they are my favorite all time brush (and I've had everyones).

The quality is second to none and using the long haired Sable whips out a script like no other brush I've ever owned.

I had intentions of picking up more of them in Ireland this year...but as you saw I didn't make it. I'll still get back and I'll be buying some more Handovers for sure.

I heard a rumor you were going to put togather a report on the Ireland meet...is it true? I hope you got lots of pics...hope you share them here.

I found it entertaining to see on Handovers website where they list magazines that is says, "Magazines for Songpainters" isn't that sort of funny?

in hanover brushes Duck is a siz of brush, Crow,They use Birds Names to Describe brush sizes. They are the best. the gent ask for a 3/4" roman blue on white I can Do that with these Brushes-A silkscreen is not going to make them any better. My Problem is all the lower lettering that is 18" from the groung Body won't do it anymore. [Cool]

I was recently gifted a few quills with red sable hair from europe, and they are wonderful! It takes a bit of time and effort to get accustomed to that much snap, but they don't seem to tire. Nice tools.
