I have Corel nine running on Windows 98. I just found a complete Corel 4 with all the books, and while looking through the clip art, I found it to be much better than the clip art in Corel 9. So my question is....does anyone know if there are any compatibility issues here. Can I run the 4 clip art and use it with 9? Do I need to install any updates first? Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. [Smile]

Jeff...I use Corel 11 and import clipart from versions 4, 8, 9, 10 and of course 11. No compatibility issues at all. And YES Corel 4 DID have a SUPER clipart selection.

In case you missed an earlier post, download RomCat from HERE and then make a catalogue of the Corel 4 clipart CD and any other Corel clipart CDs. Much better than thumbing through a book.

P.S. You don't have to "install" Corel4 to use the clipart, just stck that disk in the tray and import whatever art you want into ver9.

Thanks Dave...I saw the Romcat post earlier, and now will see about doing that over the weekend.I don't know why Corel got away from good clip art and started using the idiotic stuff in 9. I don't have any clipart installed, I just import like you said, but the romcat should save lots of time if I can figure it out.

corel 9 alos has a version of Canto's Cumulus.
I found this to be really good for all the clipart.

This is really good to for making a complete list of all your clipart. Not just corel draw clipart.
IT makes thumbnails for you to view and its very fast.

Thats interesting - version 4 had better clipart and they didn't include it in later versions? Strange. I must have a version 4 disk around here but I never paid any attention to any differences in the content of the clipart. Logic says newer versions would include all former art plus some additions - not deletions. Oh well, wonder what I've been missing.

Note: When using clips (or any file) from previous versions, the import is seamless, but you will get an alert during the save, warning that the entire file will be saved in the newer version. I suppose there might be some case where that would be nice to know - but for anybody not expecting it, don't let it scare you.

With today's giant hard drives, I don't load a CD to get my clips - I've copied the entire collection to C drive. Saves a couple seconds every time I need to grab something, and that adds up. I'm going to try that ROMCat too, thanks for the link.

Joe and Jeff...If, when you save your CorelDraw files, you assign "keywords" in the appropriate box then you can also use ROMcat to search and retrieve your own customer files. Kinda handy if you forget what you named the file but do know what the content was.

Just another idea for consideration.

Mike O'Neill was the one who suggested that idea to me and it works real slick.

I too was under the assumption that ealier versions of corel clipart were included in every update. Guess I should have kept them all instead of giving away or throwing them out. They were on floppies back then.

Jeff, if you want to know why Corel got away from that great clipart, just spell out R O Y A L T I E S
And yes, romcat is a fantastic tool; I had a linkages student (freebie) a few years ago, I used him to open every file in a six year archive and add keywords, since then we add keywords to every file saved and I can put my fingers on any file weve created since 1993 within seconds; I update the shop Romcat catalogue once a week or so( if figure I can find a file created in the last week without romcat)

Romcat performs a keyword search through all files in the catalogue and displays thumbnails of each file selected, a double click will import the file into the active corel window, ctrl 'o' will open the file in a new window.

And thanks Bruce for the vote of confidence, It was a pleasure to meet you and Dana at FKAB, and I know I've got a ton of stuff to learn from you too.

And not only that, but each version update disc didn't contain the same clipart. I started with CD5 version D, the full version in the box. Soon after, found out it was buggy (it refused to work with my printer) and had to request the update
to version F. The version D clipart disc has stuff on it that wasn't in either update; F nor G.

I would think they'd be the same, but you never know. What I like about the Corel 4 I found was the book of clip art. It is really well organized, and the images are big enough to actually see them without a magnifying glass, like you have to do in 9. Sometimes the book is handy if you don't know exactly what your looking for, and want to just flip through for ideas. I think with Romcat you have to be more specific in your search.
