I've used seven for a long time now...

If I upgraded to 11, what would I be gaining? Negatives and positives please. ( I gotta feeling OP has some thoughts on this [Smile] )

how did you know....hehehehehe. corel 7.467 version is the last of the true corels. after 7 came out, corel found a softwear named XARA, gave them a line that corel would help them become a bigger company. well corel took the XARA program, took all the best codes and program goodies(if you notice 8-11 work a lot faster then 7)from XARA, added them all to corel 7 and sold this as corel 8!!!!!. other big differeances, mostly are internet related after 7. you can get online, send stuff direct from corel to email, etc etc. as for program stablity, 8 with all updates is good, as is 9,10. iam only cuttin vinyl from corel, this is what i need it to do and 7 will do anything the rest will do....and no problems. ive played with all the new ones...they moved commands from one drop down to another, and some other neat stuff....but again....7.467 is non-problems!!!

ok..XP is ok for the home!!! i got it on another hard drive, cant get it to work to the plotter. i have a 2nd lpt pci card in the computer and XP says its there, its working properly.....but if i try to do any cutting from corel....NOTHING HAPPENS!!! it will work right if i hook the plotter to the std. lpt port, but win98se does find lpt-2 and has been workin with no problem. only think i like about XP...its a lot faster when your hooked up to the internet!!!!

I own Corel 6 , 9 , 10 , 11

I like them all especially 9. Woever, i'm starting to use 11 more all the time since so many others are using 11 now too. They are all good pragrams once you set them up correctly with service packs and fix some default settings.

11 is faster too.
There are some reduced mouse clicks in many operations. 11 uses memory better, thus faster rendering. This makes for crash free use. Importing of graphics is better too.

XP is a good program. Together they are great. Its so stable that im surprised M$ wrote it. The only thing that I cannot get to run on XP is some older 16 bit programs and older hardware. It runs everything I need to make lettering.

Over all 11 is better and using the best of Xara's features is a plus for me. I need fast and crash free. It don't matter to me how pure corel draw code is.

In my opinion,Corel 7 was the biggest piece of crap that Corel ever made. Glitched a lot, and a lot of problems with different functions that especially a sign designer would need. I use version 9 now for nearly 2 years, and don't really see a need to update further. Outlining is especially nice for thickening copy. You just change the outline to an object after you have chosen a thicker line, instead of those old glitching contours that 7 used. Much nicer functions throughout, with much improved tracing, and many plugins available for Corel paint. I would be going to version 11, but am afraid I wouldn't be as satisfied. You can probably get version 9 on E-bay for 40.00.
OP, is one of the only people that I have seen that liked 7. It must do well for him.

Nah Jack, 6 was absolutely the worst, it was a rushed 32 bit system to run on win 95, it never did work well, 7 actually worked very well after the 4th revision...

I really like 11, but I find it isn't quite as stable as 9; and yes I do have current service packs installed. Hopefully 11 will work better after service pack 2.

corel 5...i owned it for 3 days and sold it, and 6 were the absoulute worst corels ever produced. neither had the ability to work to a plotter. corel leased their plotter engine from corel to CO-CUT/EURO-CUT for those 2 versions. thats why co-cut/euro-cut will "work flawlessly fron inside corel." this was their selling tag line. like i said before 7.467 is the most stable corel. 7 versions without the .467 update were crap!!! 7 is the most "to the point", operator friendly and uses memeory of your computer better then the newer versions. 8 and up are "on screen faster" with graphics. but like ives said many times..."your programs only need to be as fast as your slowest peice of equipment your using".....and the plotter is no speed demon.....

I have Windows XP home and Draw 11. When I first got the laptop, I tried running Draw 8 just to get some stuff finished(only because I can't order software from any place in this county & couldn't order online without a computer). Some things were screwed up between 8 & XP (like there were no words on the printer options). Drove a couple counties away to get 11 & have had no problems. I run the roland CX-24 cutter & the colorcamm straight out of corel.

I run Corel 8 on both Widows 98 and XP. Don't have a problem with either one.

Never liked Corel 5 when it first came out. It was way to much for the processors of the day. Could lock up a P166 in an instant.

I still remember using CorelDraw 3...remember the balloons?

Kissy,

The Corel 8 service packs fix the printer problems and some others. I still use 8 on XP daily. I have 10 but don't have time to learn it because everything is different.

Todd..Like everything else, each of us have our own preferences. I, like Joe and many others, have many versions of CorelDraw.

My personal preference is the latest one available, not only because it is the best but because most of my contacts use the latest version also (not to mention the "up to date" Illustrator users who send files), and it is a pain in the butt for them to remember to send me files in an outdated format.

It is currently 2003, why use operating systems and software that is so outdated?

Todd...Buy Corel 11 and spend a few hours learning the basics of how it works. You won't be disappointed.

(edited part)
Sorry Todd... I didn't answer your question directly. Comparing Corel 11 to Corel 7 is like comparing a new VW bug to a 1956 VW bug. Same name..totally different and better vehicle with a bunch of new features.

Curtis,

XP has a compatability mode setings so you can run those 16 bit programs.
Locate the program's executive (EXE) file in windows explorer and right click it. Select properties, hit the compatability tab and set the compatability to match whichever version of Windows it worked with in the past.

Thank you all for your comments....I think I'll go ahead and upgrade from 7 to 11. Heck, it's only $80 to do so buying from CDW or Microwarehouse.....

and I'm going to upgrade my plotter computer to XP also.

Like Dave says. It's probably a good thing to stay current.

Corel 7 has worked very well for me in the past also (with the patches!)

But I think it's time to upgrade and add a few bells and whistles.

Thanks again all....and have a successful day!

Dang-it! I almost forgot to ask.....

Does Corel 11 contain the dimensioning/scaling tools? I didn't see it listed in the product info at their site.

thanks dave, you make me look like i dont want to move into the 21st century.hahahahahah.
i have corel 10, i have XP, but i also need to make a living, and the win 98se and corel 7 does that for me, without wasting hours trying to figure out all the new problems you incounter with new softwear. ive said this before...if you want to up grade to newer OS, newer programs, you need to invest in a couple removable hard drive racks. when i got time to "play" with XP, COREL 10, i shut down the computer, pull out the 30 gig with corel 7/98 and insert the hard drive with XP/COREL 10. hit the start button and iam in the 21st century. now i can find the problems, new things in the OS/COREL that iam not aware of, and still not mess around with the hard drive that works and works and works.
XP has a lot of good things, i like it for internet, it works faster then 98, has a lot of resident features that 98se didnt. all these are good things, but it doesnt make my jobs complete any faster when iam trying to figure out use the program.
