Hi Folks,

Looks like I've got to get myself a plotter ASAP! I've got jobs out the yin-yang & I'm basically being "forced" to go out on my own. It's been OK to sub-out or run stuff through my part-time employer till now... but not anymore. Seems my business is starting itself with or without me! [Eek!]
I wan't to get a good reliable machine. My budget is tight, of course, but I can come up with some dough. I'm thinking I can come across around 3K w/o going to the bank. I'm considering a used machine, of course.
I've always loved the "workhorse" reliability of Gerber sprocketfeds, but I bet I could get a newer, wider friction fed that will cut rubber reliably too. So, no need to back the sprocket, you'd be preaching to the choir. I'm definitely going friction.
General advice, places to shop, pitfalls to watch for?
Thanx

Hi Glenn,

Have had an Ioline Classic 24" for going on 8 years. Bulletproof. Can't say on cutting rubber resist since I don't sandblast. For everything else it does fine.

The newer ones will cut direct from Corel if that is what floats your boat.

I did get 2 extra pinch rollers after the initial buy---vinyl would sometimes bow up in the middle, especially the 24" wide, and a rip would happen. No more problems with the extra rollers.

FWIW

I'd LOVE to get me a brand-spankin-new Summa T series... but I don't know if I should spend that much now. I'd have to get financing to go that route.

Anyone familiar with a Summa D500?

Hey Glenn,

I have a Summa D60 (24") and never had a problem in the over 3 years I've had it. You can pick one up a little under $2k and for me, it's been a great investment.

If you have around 3k to spend, you could get the Summa and get either Vinyl Master Pro for $499 (it's what I use and it does everything I need and more) or get Corel and run the CoCut (not sure on the cost of it, but reasonable).

Give me a call tomorrow 337-229-7615 and we can talk shop.

Anagraph.

Solid, fast, very quiet, tracks great. and you get them at a good price. There is a load of us here that use an Anagraph.

Mine is a AE60E 24" machine, Very rarely had to have a biger one. Mostly because an anagraph will cut almost a full 23 inches. this is important because many 24" cutters only cut to about 21 inches.

If you're considering used, look at Stan McKinnons ad in the classified section of the Board. 2K and you're off to the races, vinyl incl.

If cutting sandblast is your thing, you absolutely need a machine with tangential control..it is far more important than cutting force.
