The local theme park is having their anual harvest festival. New this year is an exhibit dedicated to the history of the Cherokee Indians. They're falling behind in the sign production department, so they called me to help with the load.
The signs they want me to do are about 6' square, BIG pieces of leather stretched inside of a wooden frame thing. I went to pick them up today, only one was ready, OK, load it up. The guy there must've been in a hurry, said he thought that the drops of rain that were starting to fall would sort of blow over the sign as long as my truck was moving. Fortunately, there's a hardware store a quarter mile down the road. I pulled my truck into one of their lumber buildings, and bought a 9' x 12' drop cloth. I wrapped and wired it around the sign, and drove the 20 min. back to the shop.

Man, did it ever start to RAIN. But I was cool, my plastic was holding up, the leather dry. I got to the shop, and realized that the sign needed to go in the shop right away, so that water didn't puddle in the middle of it. I got it off the truck, plastic side up, in the pouring rain, then realized my shop door wasn't tall enough.

Well DUH. The neighbors already think I'm strange enough.

Finally I realized that by tilting it at an angle and lifting the opposite corner, it would go in. Just another "interesting" day with Jim the sign guy.
