I use Spybot Search and Destroy....a free utility to rid your computer of Spyware and adware which can transmit data about you and can screw up your computer in general.
Anyway, I installed it on the kid's computer and ran it....it goes through a bunch of file extensions...scanning for spyware and adware.
But it always stops cold on an extension labeled C2.lop
Anyone know what this is, why it hangs at this file?
I appreciate your computer advice.

Been using this same deal. Note the backwards running timer---it estimates the time left to clean house. Have noticed the hang up also, but if you wait a bit, it starts running again. This may be nothing more than the prog trying to decide what to do next. Try giving it a minute or two, and see if it starts counting backwards again.
FWIW, the bots do reappear, even here on this site, and it pays to run the S&D fairly often.

HI Todd You will have to remove C2.lop first, Spyware & adware all hang up on it. Its a real pain. Have a look at the following link, instructions on getting rid of it. http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/lop.html
When you have the time, go to "run \ msconfig" and click on the "startup" tab. Take a look at all the stuff listed.
I just found a ton of Gator-crap on it that both Adaware and Spybot missed. I've spent the last couple hours manually clearing out the crap out of my HD and registry.

I ran Ad Aware 6 and picked up 30 or 40 items. Then I saw that an upgrade was available. After I loaded that I picked up another 27 items. I was having the problem where my browser default settings were being changed. Don't know if it is fixed or not. I have had spamkiller, firewall, and McAfee for a very long time. This spyware gets by it all. Vic G
