Can someone tell me how to make a pounce pad. I'm assuming I can just use a sock and put chalk in it. Is that all there is to it? What do you put in it and are there any other things I should know about? Thanks in advance.

Shane, yes you could easily make your own, but I'd recommend calling up Canadian Signcrafters and buy a Hansee Pounce Pad. They are about $18Can and store nice in your sign kit. It's a wooden box with a terry cloth pad. Just open the lid at the top and pour the chalk or charcoal in.

Hi Babe... Here's how I do it. Get an old, clean T-shirt. Draw around a pint can of 1-Shot to make a circle tracing on the T. Cut it out. Into to circle of t-shirt, put a heaping tablespoon of the chalk of yer choosing, be it blue, black graphite, or white. Then add a cotton ball. Pull the ends up around the filler and tie it with a GUMBAND. (I'm from PA, it's rubberband to the rest of yins) Pounce away! Socks work too. I have a Han-See, but I still think this works better. I always have a dark and a light one laying around somewhere. Love- JILL ps after pouncing, when ya blow yer nose, don't be shocked at the black boogers!

I like to use those orange or blue shop rags . I place one on top of another and then dump a large quantity of whatever powder I'm gonna use in the center, fold the four corners up and securely tape around the top. This makes for a thick bag that won't come apart when used on a rough wall. It will have to be "primed" by repeatedly beating it on some hard surface til the powder starts coming out. Once primed, it will work just like a thin one. Her's a neat tip I read in SC. Place the bag backwards in a zip lock bag, grab the ziplock bag to where you will be holding the back of the pounce bag, fold the ziplock back over your hand, pounce away. When done, fold the ziplock back and seal it. No messy hands and the pounce bag. is always dry and ready to go.

I use the tshirt deal with blue carpenter's chaulk. To keep the chalk from getting all over my kit, I cut a couple of inches off of the bottom of a plastic soda bottle and use it as a cup for the bag.

I would never use one of those HanSee Pounce boxes - they are an unnecessary expense, bulky, carry very little powder and do not deliver enough to the pattern - I use one sock inside another, small, nylon children's socks work well. When the outer sock wears a hole in it you still have the powder contained. I also use a pounce bag with half&half chalk/charcoal for a grey pounce when I don't want that black stuff getting all over and mixing in with the paint. Also you can use Rottenstone (Tripoli) it is red, very pale and will not color yellows, and comes right off. Blue? I've had trouble getting the blue off; there is a sign here in town that I painted 25 years ago that still has the blue chalk visible on it. btw - breathing enough charcoal dust will cause cancer of the nuts, guys -

hahahaha reason being a pounce bag to a painter is an expendable item...yea....AND ONE THAT IS FORGOTTEN at the shop most times so when you get to the job site...."its where in the f#$$%^^&& is my pounce bag. then it becomes a matter of makin one in the field.....my tank top will usually work, or underwear, or sock!!!!!!!!
