Can someone explain how to arrange lettering on an arc so that the lettering stays vertical with the top of the word flat and the base of the word follows the oval.

Convert your text to curves, create an ellipse and place where needed, select each letter and size as required to fit on the ellipse while keeping the tops of teh letters in line,and node edit the letters if you wish to have them follow the shape of the ellipse. Once completed delete the ellipse, select all letters and Group them together. That's how I do it in Corel, should take about 5 minutes for that letter style. Anyone else?

If you are using CorelDRAW, you can use the "Envelope" tool to do that. It allows you to pull a set of simplified nodes which warp the artwork in many different ways. You can even add and remove nodes to the Envelope for greater control.
If you're using other programs, I can't help you there.

Many thanks for the replies, I've done it before using Peters technique and now I have a couple of ways to do it. Rapid Ray and Mike were helpful with how to do it in Corel using the envelope in putty mode, and it does make it easier and faster with less steps.

With Illustrator, you can do that with the effects warp feature. Just an FYI for anybody with Illustrator hoping to learn how to do that with AI.
