Have a question on pre made demensional signs like the ones Peachtree City sells. Does anyone use these sign structures? If so, who do you buy yours from and how many do you usually sell per year?
My own sign is in desperate need of replacement. It doesn't look like I am going to have much time before winter to make myself a new sign. Most of the local builders are busy trying to button up jobs before snow flies. I thought I might buy a pre made sign and then put my own panels on it. I have a few ideas going as far as design for the faces, but I want a permanent structure and then I can change the panels every few years for a nice new layout.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Pam, Peachtree City Foamcraft makes their signs from styrofoam, not HDU. They then spray a tough plastic coating on the whole structure, then paint with an acrylic latex texture finish. Any shape can be made. Crown mouldings, columns, stone etc.
We are working on a project now for a church that will be built by them and the sign panels finished here. I have a sample piece that hasn't been painted and have beat on it with a hammer with no visible damage to the piece. It is super tough and weighs very little. 2 people can pick up and install a fairly large sign with ease.
I believe there are some other companies out there doing the same thing.

Thanks Mark, I thought it was HDU, but couldn't figure out how they could afford to use HDU from the price sheet that I have.
I have been at my current shop location for over 12 years now and I guess it's time for a more permanent looking sign. These are great looking signs from the brochure I have.
I don't know of any other companies that make these signs structures closer to home. (shipping)
Thanks again for the reply. Pam

I just completed and installed my first sign utilizing a foam structure fabricated by Peachtree City Foamcraft. They were very helpful and delivered on-time.
If you plan on mounting anything onto it, be sure to ask them to include "hard point" so that the screws you use to mount the panel will have something hard to screw into.
Thanks for the info on Peachtree City Foamcraft. Went to thier site and was impressed by what they offered. Got so hiped I had to call the boss at home and sent him there too. You gave Pam good info and I snuck in under the radar to gain some good info also.

Our shop has used Peachtree City Foamcraft before, and we will use them again.
Request a CD from them of their standard designs, import to your design program, then modify them as much as you please. Add cuts, shapes, caps, just about anything you can think of.
Shipped in a bomb proof crate, on time and as described.
Install using their mounting hardware is as easy as it gets as well.
My only wish is that other products lived up to this standard as well.

Thanks everyone for your opinions on these sign structures. I have been stressing on what to do with my own sign since it blew down earlier this summer. This is a very large amount of money for me to scrape together, especially when we are headed into the slow winter months. But I am hoping my customers will be interested in having their signs attached to these structures also. This may draw more business over the winter, I (or anybody here) can promote, order, and finish these structures over the winter and then have them ready for customer installation in the Spring. This may work well to bring money in over the winter months.
Positive input ( and warnings at times) from this board really help in making the big decisions. Glad we have this board available to us.
Thanks again guys.

We have started to manufacture these signs. We use a little different method but the end result is encouraging.
We hope to become a wholesale supplier of these by next year. (just for shops in 4 hour driving radius of Bloomington, Il. to cut out the $600 pack and ship charges, as we will deliver them in our trailer)
So far, we can beat Peachtree by an easy $1000 + over the cost of construction and shipping.
Go to my web site and check out the monument sign page.

I have used Peachtree bases twice now. Ditto to everything said above. I attached Gemini metal letters to both bases.
I was a little concerned about how well these beefy letters would stay on the bases using stud mount & silicone. Well the owner of the second one wants to add something which would require moving a line of copy. I can't get the letters off! I'm afraid to pry any harder for fear of busting out a large area of the hard coat. Any suggestions?
