I need a little help here with IM. I know how to do it but it seems it doesn't work in Netscape. You can click all you want and it won't send. I can make it work in IE.......IF I can get IE to work. I've got a problem there too and can only get IE to work once in awhile, I get the message "Access control configuration prevents your request from being allowed at this time" but I'd rather use Netscape, I prefer it better, plus my e-mail is on there. Can anybody help. I don't want to come accross as being rude to the folks IM'ing me. Stupid is OK but I'm not too keen on rude.

I know that Netscape and IE wont work at the same time. It locks up your machine, because they try to use the same "shared" files.

OK, let me rephrase my question now that everybody is hip to the IM and are bombarding me with more IM's than my e-mail is getting virus notices Does anyone know what settings I have to mess with in Netscape to get the IM to work?

The IM feature everyone is talking about is not a standard feature of the UBB software that makes this BB work. It's a hack designed by programing wizards younger than most of my underwear. The "new chat" app is also a hack.
A word of caution. Many of these hacks are still in the development or beta stage. Any tool that encourages BB users to take the next step and start talking to each other is always of interest. That's what builds community and often results in new Letterville users attending their first live Letterhead meet.
There is a down side to using something brand new. To be honest, we're as green or greener than most of you on how and why these things work. The bottom line is that we are all learning together. If you make any discoveries related to these hacks, good or bad, please share them with the rest of us via this BB.

George, Thanks for going the extra effort to get the tape to FKAB, you should have your money shortly. Suelynn is getting the tape over to me today.
As for Netscape, I was a loyal Netscape user but finally got fed up with it, tried Opera, not much better luck, then I installed Mozila and haven't been happier. Mozilla is the open source version of Netscape and I see Netscape has released 7.1 June 30th which is based on Mozilla 1.4, same version I have. I suggest upgrading to 7.1. Here is the link with an upgrade guide pdf under product information.
I couldn't see it because I have to scroll over about 2" to get the full screen....
Question.............. Are the people on that IM list the people that are logged in at the time, or what..??
I never log out, so does this mean my name is " Always" on this list.......aand will any IM come up on my screen no matter what I'm doing at the time.........??
Just curious.......cj

CJ asked a good question about when the messages appear. No one has responded and I was interested too. Others have emailed me to find out what the IM is and how it works, etc. I have received many messages, and it's really nice, it's just that I wanted to make sure I IM them back. My question: how long does the message sit for the recipient?
And when we view the list, are these people on the bullboard now at the time we view their names?
And if we catch them online at the time we are on, are we able to send back and forth and instantly receive? If they go offline as we IM them, does the message stay for days until we open up the bullboard again? Can you set a timestamp so we can see when the IM is sent? That would be helpful. Anyway, it is a really neat feature, Steve and Barb! I really loved hearing from all the letterheads, sweet!

The IM list is the people who are logged into the bb at that moment, although I think there may be a little delay. If someone leaves right now, it may show them as here for a minute or however long.
CJ, it only shows you as here when you're on the site. Most people don't actually log out of letterville, just go to another page on the net. Somehow the IM and chat request pages list those who are logged in AND on the site somewhere.

I have, on a few occassions had my IM show up right when I bring up the BB, but then the sender is no longer on-line. I think when that has happened, I was working on some graphics program, & then when I got some vinyl printing or something, I just maximized the BB from my task bar, so the message may have been old already, but the "chime" sounded when it popped up, so it seemed at first like it was a brand new IM.
I think a time stamp would be good. I would also think it was great if a "reply" link would be available to get back to the sender quickly.

Sonny, btw, I sent that message Sept 2 around 1:30 am my time. We may be 3 hours difference. So that would make it 4:30 your time. I guess IM is only 12 hours or so lag time...
