we have a gap in our production equipment where i feel an inkjet printer would fit in. our shop is traditional large format screenprint, and we also have large format digital (3M Scotchprint 2000 electrostatic printer) and a Gerber Edge. I wanted to see how others here on the board like their inkjet printers and which brand/make offers solvent based long-term exterior graphics. Mimaki, Arizona, and Roland names have been talked about here at the shop, but i wanted to see what production folks think about them.

The Mimaki JV3 and now the Roland EX are the two main entry-level printers at the moment.

The DGI is a good one a notch above them in price but lower print resolution with lower ink costs. The DGI has very good color vibrancy and resolution is more than sufficient for most outdoor graphics (6'+ viewing distances).

The Arizona's are really falling behind in competitiveness. They are much more expensive without any significant advantages. Two years ago the 90 and 180 were the only way to get into solvent affordably, but they have not really changed while everybody else is blowing past them in terms of price and performance.

What are you really looking to do? Volume or quality? Typically the printers that excel at volume production offer lower print quality and vice versa.
