I clean with whatever heavy stuff I need to cut the dirt and then Rapid Tac a couple of times. But, what does everyone use for the final, get rid of the dust and stuff, wipe?

As always, thanks to all of you.

Rapid-Tac is not a cleaner, it is used for application of vinyl and as a positioning fluid. Now Rapid-Prep is a cleaner which is water based without petro-chemicals and will not leave any oils or dirt behind if used as directions are stated on container. I do automobiles and never have a problem using it.

Sharon...For applying vinyl on vehicles or boats etc. I use Rapid Prep if the surface has wax, grease buildup, then Rapid Tac after that a couple of times.

For spray painting a background colour on MDO or Aluminum, I use Rapid Prep to clean the surface, THEN sand (Remove any wax, grease, fingerprints BEFORE sanding) then blow off and wipe off as much dust as I can. Finally, I use a tack-Rag (available at any automotive store, like NAPA or Car Quest) just before spraying to remove all the very fine dust that might be on the surface.

(Book learning, manufacturers recommendations AND 30 years spraying experience. Just thought I'd throw that in [Wink] )

each suface that you apply vinyl to will have some differance as to how much clean/prep work will need done. some windows/new vehicles/new sign boards dont need much. RAPID PREP IS GREAT for most of these. heavy equipment, diesel fuel/oil/grease spattered will take much more cleaning. older vans/trucks/boats/boards require also need more prep. some windows ive done had to be cleaned with cleanser and a scotch brite pad!!!! the old guys here all say that you know its clean when you can drag you knuckles across the surface and you can feel it grab you skin. i use those "china markers", if it will leave a line with no skips its clean.

Actually Joey, Rapid Tac was developed to be (4) things;

1- a cleaner (light type) for MOST contaminants you will run up against in applying vinyl.

2- a positioning fluid to allow you to MOVE the graphic around untill squeeged.

3- a adhesive stimulant, to cause a quick bond in a wet application situation.

4- a de activator to the adhesive on the transfer tape, to allow quick removal without pulling hard against the vinyl bond.

Hey, all that in one bottle, amazing! He he he he he

Maybe I'm behind the times or I'm just stubborn, but I still use good ole' alcohol. It's cheap, I can get it anywhere and it does GREAT at cleaning a surface. If it's really TOUGH, I go in the paintroom and get out the lacquer thinner, but I always go behind it with alcohol just to be sure...

As far as a final 'wash', soap and water is my favorite. I keep a bottle with both around for wet-sanding, so it's easy to get to when I finish a vinyl job, too. Usually just a lil' soap will keep it watery enough that you can spray it on and wipe it off without soap stains...

Rodger...sorry to have to admit it, but I layed my first 8' strip the other day and was so intimidated because of past experience of getting bubbles all the time....and I pulled out the samples you graciously donated and wow...I read the instructions carefully and it went perfect...
I am sold!... very neat stuff!

For crying out loud Roger , when the hell you going to change your Hawaii address to something more appropriate, like where you actually live. On the top right side of the beginning of this post there is something that reads " My Profile " click on it and change your address, even if you use the Merlin address.

And don't worry about Dwayne, he will change as soon as he gets a job [Smile]

Well, until they temporarily closed the truck stop I did lots of trucks.

I would never use soap and water or a bottle of alcohol in front of them truckers. They would think they could do it themselves. And, I want a professional demeanor.

I always used my "secrete" juices from Rogers RT line. I can't tell you how many times i've come behind someone who tried to remove or apply some graphic himself usign soap and water or alcohol.

Soap and water go with applying window tint.

I can't tell how many ruined truck paint jobs i've looked at either. They would try any old concoction and a scraper blade to remove the graphic and adheisve.

Rapid remover is magic. Rapid Prep is great. RT is so much easier to use. All of them are professional products that help me maintain a professional uniform.

And that look makes me MONEY$$$$$.

Roger, you should be grinnin' from ear to ear, 'bout now!

I'm with Robert on the wet window application/no bubbles. (I use RT2 on windows - religously!) Last week, I applied rather large etched vinyl panels to the back side of a window, in a medical building. It was tit's! (ooops, am I allowed to say that?) Pulled it off like clock work!

Normally, I clean the surface at least twice (with clean *cheap* paper towels) using Rapid Prep.

Now Curtis, you have the right idea! I look professional...hehe My Rapid products follow me to every job site. (keep grinning Roger)

These products appeal to people's senses too!

I may use an array of other chemicals to pre-clean surfaces, (mineral spirits, laquer thinner, that purple stuff, bleach, comet, soap & water, T-9) but normally finish up with RP, especially when applying vinyl.

Where can I find elbow grease in a spray can?

Cher.

I wouldn't mind sitting in on an audit of the Rapid Tac business.

Roger, never hesitates to send out a sample of his product. Even the kind people in his office have tracked me down, to make sure it arrived at the appropriate destination.

My curiosity has gotten the best of me, many times over; I've often wondered, just how much money is spent on sending out Rapid samples? Great marketing, Roger!

Me thinks, Roger likes to fish. Set the bait. And wait!

Cher.

Truth be known Cheryl, I'm just cheap and stuborn when it comes to hireing salespeople !!

I hired 2 about 9 years ago, it didn't take but two or three weeks for them to completely p*^* me off.
They lied to the potential customers, overcharged others, sold direct (big no no), then I caught them with they're hands in the cookie jar.

My only salesforse is my phone, my fax, my products ability to perform and the good folks like yourselves who brag and tell others !!

Love yous guys,an gals !

Thanks,Roger [Smile] [Smile] [Smile]
p.s. only 6 to 7 thousand a year Cheryl.
