I've heard all kinds of great combinations, but I ran into the same problem on the last two paint jobs I did. One bike was read with white-to-yellow-to-orange flames with an ORANGE pinstripe and the 32' highboy had pearl blue flames/yellowish-orange pinstripe and a orange basecoat. Both pretty high contrast color combinations from graphic to basecoat.
Anyways, I had to double-coat on alot of places on both jobs. I was using HOK urethanes, which normally cover great!!! I just finished a purple flame job on a BLACK truck, and all the lines were dragged ONE TIME...no double coats. However, ORANGE and yellow just won't 'thicken' up...
Joey Madden, if you read this, please let me know what you think, cause' I think you're about the only other one around that believes in HOK!!!

I think the HoK paint has to be kept in a very cool place even your refrigerator at all times and if its not, it thins itself dramatically in the jar or can. The hotter it gets the thinner it appears. I find the 0704 Chrome Yellow is alot thicker then the other 2 yellows. Stir all paint well before use and then try adding a touch of white which is always thicker

You can also add magenta...primrose + magenta will get you lemon (or close) and lemon + magenta will get you Chrome...Chrome + magenta will get you orange.

Monte, you mixing lettering enamels? Just asking because I'm tryin to figure how these colors mix like you say. I don't doubt that they work. I'm just tryin to imagine the order based on the fact that primrose is a mixture of lemon & white; and magenta is a mixture of white & rubine. At least that worked using Chromatics.
Maybe some of these colors can be used as substitutes in your formulae. Without an HOK color chart, or experience with them, its tough to give any meaningful advice here. Don't flame me - just the vehicles.

C'mon Monte, where the hell would anyone be if they didn't get offended once in a while. Remember not everything reguires 1-Shot. And Bill, I lived 1 mile from Chromatic when the Bermans owned it, knew all the formulars back then.

Joey, I haven't really considered using the fridge for that, but it sounds good.
Monte, those colors are all Greek to me, but then again, any name is just a name to me...I can't remember which ones are which, I just know which ones I WANT...But the idea of adding magenta to a yellow sounds like it'll work GREAT. I know HOK Magenta covers fairly well, better than yellow or orange alone...Thanks for the idea...

Hey Joey, Do you refrigerate ALL of your HOK products, catalysts and all? Or just the striping urethanes? I'd think you'd need a bloody big fridge for everything.
