Amy I seem to recall essex green being a specific british color. Popular with automobiles if Im correct. Having seen it before its a lot like a dark hunter green but dont hold me to that. Its been a good many years and my mind is feeble.

Ya know Bob, you might be correct in assuming that the British racing green is actually called Essex Green. My thoughts were that the Essex green lettering had a drop shadow of crême in an ol'english style

I think that may have been a Benjamin Moore stock color at one time. I have a lot of old color charts from them. Let me know if you want me to look for it.

ive painted a couple english sports cars....and BRITISH RACING GREEN...is more then just one....there are 3-4 to choose from....just like john deere green has 3-4 different shades.

Well I think Bob is about right . The color is a dark forest green , but that's just speculation. There used to be a car called an Essex...maybe that is the origin of the color. I think it was made in the early thirties, and was kind of a luxury car at the time. So the green was dark and reserved looking ? I think of British racing green, and I see something just a tad greener. About the color of a green MG. Perhaps an auto paint store may have a sample, if it does indeed stem from a car color.
