I have a picture on my desktop I need to get to my laptop. The file is too large to fit on a disk. How can I make the file smaller so it will fit? I have tried to network but I can't get the computers to talk back and forth. My cd reader-writer won't work. Of course this happens on a weekend and I can't get my computer worked on till Monday. A 3.5 in disk drive is all that is workingon both computers. Is there a way to compress the file in CorelDraw 9, put it on a disk and then move it to my laptop? I sure would appreciate any help. [Thanks]

You could try WinZip to compress it. WinZip has an evaluation download that you can use to try it.

There are other programs like WinZip but I am not familiar with them. Vic G

You could email it to yourself and download from the laptop if you can access it that way.
Got a flash memory card reader for your digital camera? Copy it that way and connect to your other computer to retrieve it.

In the past, I have occasionally used file splitter software. The following link to a free software download may help you to a solution.

Winzip or Winrar ...

Both will let you span large archives across multiple disks if neceessary...

You said "picture" .... just checking because if it's partially a vector you could save it in pieces on several floppys and put it back together on the other machine.

You could save it as a high res jpeg as close to 1.4 megs as possible.....that would be a much smaller file.

Just a couple thoughts that might work.

Or if you have a usb port on each, you can get one of those removable drives which store anywhere from 64 - 256 of memory, depending on which size you buy, to store it without reduction. I see a couple (128mb) on sale now for somewhere between $20 to $30. Can't think of the name right now. [Dunno]

I tried to net work the two computers one more time and I really made a mistake. My laptop gave me a fatal error and told me to push any key. Now all that will come up is "Operating System Not found". That happened to me once before and I lost everything that was on the computer. That was a costly fatal error. All the pictures and work from this whole year was on it. The pictures are the things I am upset about. I have tried backing up that system before and it doesn't backup. I checked what was suppose to be my backup and it is blank. I guess I know what I will be doing today. [Mad]
