As you've probally noticed, we've been busy updating and hacking new features into your Letterville BullBoard. Some will be obvious, while others give us more options as administrators.
Right now I want to talk about Letterville Chat. We've known for sometime that there are always several signmakers reading the BB at the same time. We've always looked for a way that would allow all these users to invite each other for a chat. Exciting idea! Now you can read the BB together and chat at the same time. That's the plan anyway.
Expeienced users can still use mirc to access the chat, but we'd really like you to take this new java applet for a test drive too. You'll find the gateway to this new chat on the main BB Forum List Page . It's tucked in right under the Tips & Tricks Forum. I'll try adding an additional link at the end of this post.
This new app will automatically connect you to the same old #letterville many of you have always used. Here's what's different. It will use your BullBoard Username instead of your usual nick. Those that really, really hate change are free to use your irc commands to get your usual nick back, but new users will appreciate the real names instead of a bunch of strange nicknames.
Once you get on channel using this new applet, you will see a link that allows you to invite other users that are currently browsing the BB to come chat with you. People tell me a window pops up inviting them to come to Letterville Chat.
When you see this window, use the new chat link of the Forum Page or click on the link below.
I'm sure there will be some bugs to iron out. You'll see some nag text instructing you to contact us to register the applet. The good news is Barb found the $50 Old Paint gave me in Florida tucked in the waistband of the red thong. We'll get rid of that nag message as soon as we get the password or key.
I've been up all night messing around with the BullBoard. I'm off to bed for a few hours. In the meantime, explore the new toys and give us some feedback on what you discover.

Great Steve...I gt tired of trying to remember who the heck I'm talking to...sometimes I feel like I'm locked into a "Smokey and the bandit" movie "breaker breaker 1 - 9" or does anyone know who "smokey" is?
I'll give it a test drive tonite and let you know how it went.
Definitely a step in the right direction I think!
Will this cut down on the lurkers too?

well, I tried to get on the chat, but on the link you put, it said what "channel" was I on. I didn't know what to put. Then I remembered, I had formatted my hard drive so I had no mIRC, maybe that why I couldn't log on. Then I went to the link on the main page that reads CHAT, but I needed a password, it's been so long since I've been on chat I forgot about a password. I did see someone slapping someone with a trout, so I guess things haven't changed much Maybe another time...

Steve, I tried using that link and couldnt connect to the server at all. I had to click on the "config" button, set the port to 7000 then it was OK.. Maybe there's a way to set that so it's the default port setting? but it's still the same IRC network and you need to have a registered nick before you can get in if there are no channel operators already in the channel, hence the message "You must identify your nickname to join an unmanaged channel."

Steve, I just tried. It said I was there, but had to type "/join #your_channel". Then it said "not in any channel, unknown command" to several spelling variations of the /join...bit. An invitation to all others around at the time seemed to get nowhere too? Best wishes, it looks like it'll be good when it gets going. P.S. It seems it thinks I'm also not a registered user?

Thanks for the comments. I haven't had much time to play with the chat yet. Our power was out until sometime in the wee hours of the morning. Today has been one appointment after another.
We finally recieved the licence key that will get rid of that annoying nag text you are seeing. If the power stays on, and our guru Greg reads his e-mail, we hope to see some changes soon.
I have a registered nick. In order to use the app, it has been necessary to use /nick to get my registered nickname, then /msg nickserv identify password to prove I am SignMan, and finally /join #letterville to get to the Letterville Chatroom. People with unregistered nicks tell me they are taken directly to chat. It would be soooo nice to get rid of Chanserv and Nickserv and just enjoy chatting.
