most boards have a time limit. Some are at about 15 minutes some are around 2 hours. This allows ppl some time to fix typo's and to change their mind if they make an error post.

A 10 or 15 minute time limit for typos sounds good...........2 hours....too long !! I usually have to go back and correct a couple thing too, and do it immediatly.
Possibly 15 minutes, or after the next person posts..........and the feature expires.
Mike.....Your porn star post made sence to me......I was in the bar.....

Same here... I like edit for typos and an occasional afterthought.. but it's too easy to stir the pot, then delete the source ... I don't believe posts should be deleted...
a time limit for editing would be a good thing... 10 minutes..
If people know posting is the equivalent of writing in concrete (permanent), maybe they'll put more thought into it before hitting enter..

One simple way to check for grammar and spelling is to first type your message into Word or another word processing program. Then copy and paste your message into the reply or new topic. I often do this before logging in, giving me time to collect my thoughts and words. This would eliminate the need for any type of time limit.
Goodness knows I make enough mistakes. This is just the best way I have found to catch most of them.

We have seen in the past were a tread is started and you may not be online for a day or two! So you open that One and the first message or the next is deleted! The puzzle is what was said? So I or you place a new message trying to link to the postings!
NOW WAY OUT IN CONTEXT OR SPACE!!!!!!!!!!! Hard to follow when someone Deletes...
Edit Yes if small spelling mistakes or arrangement of words.

I know CJ's suggestion makes alot of sense, if it's an option for Steve and Barb to set up. 99 times out of a hundred, edits are just that...but as we saw in the last couple days, editing to remove your statement to make others look like complete a holes and idiots happens occasionally.

It sure would help everyone have their act together "before " they hit the enter button........or at least their post would stand on it's own ........Good or Bad...!!

We've just updated to the latest verion of UBB. This is the software we use for this BullBoard. It has a bunch of new features, some visible, and all sorts of new control options.
It's only been a couple hours, but I can't find any setting for limiting the time users have to edit their posts. It appears to be an all or none choice.
We have a couple concerns shutting off the edit feature. I use it almost every post to either add another thought or correct my grammer. Most of you use it the same way. We already have a Preview Post option and now we have a spellchecker. (It's not great, but it's a start.)
Let's look at a possible scenerio if the edit option is removed. Someone looses it and says something they later regret. It happens all the time here in a Scottish town like Fergus. I realize some people take great pleasure in watching our fellow human beings make fools of themselves, but I've been the ass too many times myself, to take any joy in humiliating or "putting anyone in their place."
I can see these poor souls phoning, emailing or sending carrier pigeons begging us to remove their offensive comments. Can't we all make a greater effort to think before we hit that post button and avoid changing the edit feature?

I think the new feature which shows how many logged-in users & guests are currently online will help curb the urge to post not so nice stuff. Seeing that guests are also viewing & deciding if they want to join, may be all the incentive needed to be civil.

Keep the edit post function if you do not it will only keep old upseting posts going and going. If someone posts something that they later wished they spent more time thinking about it is a way for that person to end the hard feelings or at least lessen them. I think the people that want to see the posts stay are people that think they missed something and they want back into the loop.

How about a feature that shows how many times a post was viewed, not just how many times posted to? I have seen this on other bulletin boards.
