I've been watching this show on the Trio network for a while now and have become a big fan. It's a nightly show that features some really great music. An hour long show that usually showcases two differnt groups . Tonight was a whole hour of John Prine. He had Iris Dement join him for a couple of numbers There's been a whole bunch of folks on there that I've really enjoyed like David Byrne, The Cowboy Junkies, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Steve Earle with the Del McCroury Band and Ziggy Marley ( man were they ever good ) If you are a music lover like me, check this one out, you'll like it It's been hosted by David Bryne or John Hiatt and they interview the acts which is usually pretty informative like tonight when Hiatt was inetrviewing John Prine. John talked about his singing debut at an open mike and how he sang the first three songs he had written. The club offered him a job right away. The three songs were "Sam Stone", "Hello in There" and "Paradise" !

Trio is really superb, George. The last couple times I had the chance to turn it on was featuring Elvis Costello each of the three times, then also, Prine and Clapton, some of my favorites..

Oh man, George!!! When I saw the title of your post, first thing I thought was I'd like to get that "John Prine W 54th" DVD that I've been puttin off forever. spooky
Some very good stuff...I've been exposed to some great talent thru that show over the years.
BTW, anybody know if Prine is touring this year? I saw him in Clearwater last year. Fantastic show!

Don, September 12, Pensacola. I've seen him on a number of occasions, all were great! The most memorable was back around 75 or 76. He played a small club in Memphis, solo. We had a front row table. He had , well , a few too many. He got lost in the middle of "the Great Compromise " my buddy and I helped him out with the lyrics. He came over after the show, shook our hands and thanked us for bailing him out...it was priceless. I used to live accross the street from the program director of one of the radio stations in Memphis. Singer/songwriter Keith Sykes used to drop by the guys house all the time. Keith was buying up all these old cars from the year he was born 50 or 51. He had a two tone green Nash, ugh! Anyway , one day he shows up with a ratty black Studebaker, John Prine had autographed the hood with a nail Wonder where that car is now?

I worked with a guy, Gib Foster, back in the 80s...who used to be a big time illustrator in Chicago. He, Prine and David Bromberg were drinkin buddies back then. One of Gib's stories was tellin John once that he'd love to do some illustrations based on Prine's stories. John said 'coo' and reached into his guitar case and gave Gib a stack of handwritten lyrics.
OK...sounds like a story.....till Gib showed me the stack of lyrics he still had!
