My oldest son is flying in to study for his doctorate on a grant very soon and we have hit a snag in his relocation plans,....I was hoping to possibly find someone in the area willing to assist in overcoming a few small obstacles. The primary concern at hand is the rental of a vehicle to obtain furnishings and small appliances. Money is not an issue here as he has funding awaiting upon arrival,however his age is,...From our souces we have learned that the minimum age to rent a truck is 25 and he is a year or so short of this requirement.
I am very proud of this young man as he graduated from the NC High Scool of Math and Science(the second highest curiculum for a public school in the nation).He then worked his way to graduate with honors from NC State University,with a degree in theoretical mathematics. He has been accepted at Berkley with grant funding to study for his doctorate.He worked his way thru school,primarily paid his own way,but now he has no choice but to ask for help.
We were hoping someone the area would be able to lend some time and good faith to cosign for the rental of a truck for a day or so.It is by no means cost effective for us to fly out with him so an older relaive can help with the rental, and he will only need it for a day or so to gather a few pieces of furniture for his apartment.He has the money for the rental only he isn't 25 years of age,....a pre-requisite for the vehicle rental.
So,...if anyone has a solution or can help with this issue we would be truely greatful! Thanks In advance!

I would suggest to your son, as soon as he hits the campus at Berkely to locate student housing where usually there will be someone to give a hand. I work for UCDavis, campus in the sacramento area and they have a great sense of community at the UC campus there so I guess it would apply as well at Berkely. If he has a real problem I can drive down to the bay area on a weekend and help out.

Mr.Barrow, please let me know the dates and times that you're needing this help. If I can get down there, I will, otherwise, I have a neice two neices and nephews to be in the 'hood. Doesn't sound like too much trouble.

Wow! Thanx folks! My son will be there around the 15th and hopefully all will be taken care of by student housing as Jack says, but just the same it is very reassuring that we have a couple of contacts in the area. For the most part he has always been within an hour or two from home here and we could overcome any reasonable hurdles.
