We were pouring the concrete foundation of the new studio/workshop yesterday and there was a small break between trucks. As we leaned on the forms & took a much needed break, the fellow giving us a hand asked me if I had decided what the studio was going to look like yet.
I launched into a detailed description immediately... the walls there & there would be fourteen feet high, with a vaulted ceiling above that... with a bookcase going right up as high as it would go. There would be one of those funky rolling ladders to access the higher volumes of course. The fronts of the cases would be all themed with cool woodgrain.
On the corner of the four foot rise to my studio would be this massive knarly tree and the dragon would be hanging in the highest part of the vaulted ceiling. The double door will be sculpted & welded steel, a tree, I think, with all the leaves welded on and a leaded glass window in the middle of it. My desk will curve along the massive, timbered bay window which will tower over the entire studio... the floor will be ceramic tile, but laid with plenty of imagination, and everywhere will be plenty of creative pockets for my treasures to display.
I'n not sure if the fellow could visualize the same thing I picture in my head, but I could see it all as clear as it will be finished as we stood there in the baking sun leaning on the foundation walls we had just poured. I suspect I lost him somewhere in the description as he had much more conventional ideas in mind.
He promised to return when we are done. Then it will be clear to him too.

I have been following your adventures for some time now, with great delight...
I think I finally know where I've seen you before, I believe it was in one of J.R.R. Tolkien's books. Yes, you are a modern day hobbit, to you nothing seem unatainabe as it does to so may of us, and for that I thank you...
It is because of you that instead of a plain white basement, I have instead sculptured foam stones protruding from my wall with an ocean sceen and moss looking at me.
It is because of you that instead of an ordinary deck out my back door, I have instead a 4 tiered deck with a built in pond and fountain with a cascading waterfall.
It's because of you Dan that when I have one of those crazy ideas for something I don't just let it go and say "Nah, That's Silly...", instead I say "Dan wouldn't think this was silly, he'd think it wasn't silly enough!!"
Thank you Dan for keeping me creative...
Looking foreward to more pics of your dream...

Danny boy - you gotta quit sniffing that mountain air - it's making you high! . I can't wait to see the finished product! And yes, I believe you may have fallen from the pages of a Tolkien Book! I remember you from the murals course in Moose Jaw - I wish I'd known at the time what a fascinating imagination you had - all we painted were airplanes. I think I'll slip back to the WDM and add a few dragons! I love sharing your dreams on the BB!

Diane B., what awesome ideas! You ever consider being a consultant? Could be a little tricky in the R&D stage though. Wear asbestos.
