It seems our magic is working in Yarrow already. I've really tried to keep my head down and concentrate on our own 'little' project but all those huge trucks coming in & out of the driveway have attracted quite a bit of local (and otherwise) attention.
We kept the lookie loos at bay for a little while. When they asked about our project we told them it was to be a new Walmart. It got folks real excited to say the least. I figured that the truth would be much more manageable for these curious folks when they realized that we weren't actually building a superstore.
I've heard lots of folks think we are building a new theme park similar to Giggle Ridge. Funny thing is nobody's upset about that particular runor - I guess they like Giggle Ridge. A few of the neighbors have been seen golfing there, I guess to get a sneak peek at what they might expect here in Yarrow.
It might be the rumored train that got them going or the theme architecture we plan. The styrofoam forms are a huge curiosity too, amongst the locals.
Folks I talk to are either baffled about our plans of a theme shop/studio and house complete with a train or they understand and wish it were them who lived here. Either way it's for our enjoyment and I don't much mind what they think.
There's been a steady stream of locals peeking into the large hole we've dug out back. I got a haircut at the local barber's place yesterday. I gave him a few facts to spread around instead of the wild tales he's heard.
We poured our third major concrete pour today (39 cubic yards). Went well too, I'm happy to say. The building is now out of the ground... with backfill to happen on thursday. By next wenesday we will be dancing on a brand new concrete floor, literally! And a very happy dance it will be too!
The undulating concrete block fence now stretches back from the front propertyline over 200 feet. Only an underlying structure, it promises interesting things to come. A few light posts now poke into the sky at a happy angle. And colorful stakes and painted lines on the ground hint of things that are still only ideas.
The project sure has folks talking.
A few of the local businesses have ventured onto the property and approached me to see about some ideas to spruce up their buildings. They take one look at our plans for this property and then immediately ask if I have some ideas for their place of business.
HMMMMMMMMM.
Yarrow will never be the same.

I've got to figure out where exactly Yarrow is. We are touring through BC for the next few weeks, and I'd love to stop and see your progress. I'd also love to get a round in at giggle ridge.
I'm getting my map out.

Yarrow is so small it may not appear on many maps. Actually it is officially the extreme south part of Chilliwack which is about 80 miles east of Vancouver.
I'd love to give any visiting heads a tour and golfing is ALWAYS fun at Giggle Ridge!

Hi Dan, happy to hear all is going well for you. Felt bad I didn't have time to stop in when in B.C., but we were on a tight schedule in order to make the meets at Unity, Sk, and Renfrew, On.
You really have all of us going and anxious to see it all. Giggle Ridge must be a miniature course.
Keep the good news coming.
Bill
P.S. When on our way back East, got to see one of your murals, made me stop cold, a very beautiful job.

Dan, cruising the lower mainland second week of August with the family. We'll attempt to hit Giggle Ridge either that Wednesday or Thursday. If it's alright I'd love to come by and take some pictures of your work in progress. Yarrow is not on the map, but I'm sure with the number of locals checking out the digs all we have to do is ask where the new Wallmart is going up.
'build it and they will come...'

I'll be at the ranch until 4:30 on both Wednesday & Thursday. At 5 I do the evening shift at Giggle Ridge.
Coming from Vancouver take 3 Rd exit to Cultus Lake. The road passes through Yarrow. We are on the main drag through - 42392 Yarrow Central Road right across from the fire hall.
