I'm going nuts trying to find a similar font to this. Can anyone give me some names of candidates I can lookup and purchase?
New marina account who is a Grady-White dealer, wants to sell some boat lettering for me. I'm making up a standard font list to display, but they specifically requested a font similar to Grady-White's. Their former supplier was using a block that really wasn't very close, but they were satisfied with it. It looked a lot like a Futura or Avant Garde, but with tabs flying off the caps. I can't even find that, and I know I've seen/used it before. Man, I'm either getting old or tired. Brain shut down. I'm going to go take a break. Appreciate your input.

Definitely a font that has been modified to become somebodys idea of a logo. No rhyme nor reason to the serifs at all. And that gaping cavern between the R and A is enough to entice evil kenivel to jump it on a rocket motorcycle.
Some variation on a bold thick n' thin typestyle. If I run across it I'll post the name.

Hey Joe, I would try Chuck Davis, he has alot of fonts. I can't remember his web site address, but I'm sure it's posted around here somewhere, or if not I'm sure it can be found.

Wow, what a hassle this was, and what a treat to have all your help - Thank you so much.
Alf, that Grange font is great. I wish I knew some way to edit the individual characters to add the slab serifs on there, and save the changes as a new font.
Sonny's link to Jeunesse Bold was also very close, and had the serifs. Cool, we're getting closer!
I eventually found a compromise that incorporates some of the best of both, by uploading an image of the Jeunesse at myfonts.com. I still can't decide which of these I like best, nor how to go about getting anything closer. But to share my pain, here's the existing field. Thanks again.

Hey Alf, thats twice you helped me out - you made me realize there's no need to compromise. As a personal challenge I decided to edit an existing font to my needs. Not owning Fontographer or other ttf editor, I did it probably the hardest way possible, but it was cheap (except for the time, which is chalked up to education in this case), and anybody can do it with CorelDRAW or other vector program that lets you export in ttf format.
The kerning isn't perfect, but this will definitely work. I started out with a similar type face (Optima family), and converted the whole font to individual characters, added serifs where needed, and exported each character using Corel's ttf export routine. Once I got the hang of it, it wasn't really all that hard. Take a look:
I'm happy, and the marina should be thrilled. If nothing else, I've got a strange new font to use, and a nice dose of self confidence. Good start to a day!

How about sending us all a copy of that font, huh? It's not like it cost you anything...
Nice job.
