I read the post from Dwayne the other day, well as much as was there on Saturday night... sort of skimmed through it. Looked like there was a lot of info in there that "pertained" to me so - knowing that I was going to accompany my wife to Northern Wisconsin I decided to print it out and read it more closely on the trip. I was right, it has me written all over it.
After a week of dealing with computer virus crap and having to rebuild two systems, I was ready to get the heck out. At least for a day or two. Once in a while when my wife speaks to heatlh departments around the state and around the country, I tag along. When she is actually working (speaking or attending seminars) I take off and see what is going on. Usually, I wind up seeing what other sign people are doing. I visited with Steve Barba last summer. I bothered some guy in San Francisco last December. Today, I saw a little sign that mentioned "Al Baker Signs" on the LCO reservation near Hayward, Wi. I decided to stop in and yak for about 20 minutes. What a cool guy. An Ojibwe man, 70 years old. Still hand painting. Has a plotter, some old thing that he does not use. Does cut SOME vinyl all by hand but prefers paint all the way. Told me that he has a guy that helps him out once in a while who has a steadier hand for the detail work... an 85 year old guy. Anyway, Al has been at it up there for 47 years and seems to be VERY content in what he is doing. Driving around that area, you can see his signs all over and they all have a certain character that would be a shame to forget about.
Anyway, just thought that I'd share this little adventure and say that after talking to this man, Things don't need to be so hectic or overwhelming. Tomorrow is another day.
