Is there a lead additive for paint? If not, can you add powered led to 1-shot?

I've got an old "formulas, methods and tips" book, has to be from the older days. What with the formulas in there, you know it is! Example: One ingredient for making your own paint is a 5 gallon pail of "sugars of lead". My guess is that's oxidized lead. I've got even older books on the subject.
Can you imagine what the EPA would do to your hide if you were caught with a bucket of powdered lead? Man, life in solitary, maybe worse.
Also is the lead the only thing that's been changed? What are Volatile Organic Compounds anyway? Solvents? Binders (varnish)?
It's a topic I'm interseted in, considering I basically use the stuff by the TEASPOON anyway. I was thinking maybe it could be had in good ol' Meh-he-co. I can see the bust now. 20 cop cars, 2 helicopters, and a hundred officers surrounding the vehicle with the lead in it. Wave on the cars with the kilos of other stuff, we've got a high profile case now!
Poor Jim, how did he get talked into this anyway? I tried to tell them it's about durability of signs, but they wouldn't listen. They kept asking "Who's this Bill and Jane you mentioned earlier?"

Shhhhh...... Ricardo, your answer is hidden in yard sales. I occassionally find a flat can of white lead and oil on a shelf in an old garage while at these sales and often can get it for a quarter or a dime. This requires a bunch of stirring, like the old stuff did, but it will yeald the results you're asking for.
Regarding the age of the chart, it's not too old. I have several of that vintage around.

Does anyone remember when the movie studio's use to send out 8x10 photo's of the actors to each theatre for pubilicty shots like for the newspapers??? Back then these were usually Black & White head shot photo's, some were full length shots.
These were used probably when sign painters traveled around to do the movie posters. I personally am to young to remember either one.
My great uncle use to be the manager of a local theatre we had here. From what I understand it was really a palace, fancy and all. It was called the "Greand Theatre", and from what I have been told it really was.
When my Aunt passed away the family was going through her things to empty her house. We came across all these photo's, letterhead & envelopes from the theatre. Along with some other misc. stuff.
Nobody in the family wanted them and they were going to throw them out, luckily I was there and put a stop to it before they got thrown out because I wanted them.
The majority of them are actress' and let me tell you, these are some good looking people and I think the fact they are in B&W only makes them better looking. I, personally, have always liked B&W photography the best.
Most I have no idea, and have been unable to find out who they are. One is of Ginger Rogers, real young even. Some have dates on them from the 20's and 30's which makes since because that is when Uncle John ran the place.
I know this is not paint related, wish I had some of the hand painted posters, but I thought some would be interested.

What's shakin' pal? I'll say again that I really wish I could make the meet, but I'll be working at the Sign Business show in Orlando. Duty can be such a drag sometimes.
Hey, just a thought, depending on what the ya planned on doing with that color chart, Tod may be interested in it as a piece for the sign museum. I just gave him a really old Swift Rolled Gold tin at the Vegas show. (I collect antique sign supplies, and I've willed my collection to the museum, but this was a duplicate I picked up.)
And anyone else who has such treasures from our trade's past..consider donating them to the sign museum!
